Actor Rishi Kapoor has been in New York for seven months now, undergoing treatment. He left for the US last year due to an undisclosed illness and his well-wishers including Alia Bhatt, Sonali Bendre, Sonu Nigam, and other Bollywood celebrities have been visiting him there.
Speaking about his ailment, he announced on Twitter in September 2018, “Hello all! I am taking a short leave of absence from work to go to America for some medical treatment. I urge my well-wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate. It’s been 45 years ‘plus’ of wear and tear at the movies. With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon.” Although the Kapoor family didn’t reveal the illness, speculations said that it was cancer.
Now it has been revealed that the 102 Not Out actor has been getting treated for cancer, with wife Neetu Kapoor at his side. Rishi Kapoor has declared today that he’s cancer-free now. In a recent interview with a leading daily, Rishi said, “Neetu has stood by me like a rock. Otherwise, I am too difficult a person to handle as far as food and drink are concerned. My kids Ranbir and Ridhima have really shouldered my problems.”
Talking about his treatment, the veteran actor said, “My eighth month of treatment started on May 1 in the US. But God has been kind! I am in remission, meaning now I am cancer-free. I will have to do a bone marrow transplant, which in all probability should take another two months minimum. Being in remission is a big thing and it’s all because of my family and my fans prayers and duas that have worked. I thank them all.”
Two months ago, son Ranbir Kapoor revealed Rishi may soon return to India, “He’s doing very well, and he will be back very soon. He is missing the movies and working in films. I really hope that with all your wishes and prayers he comes back very soon.”
Last month, Ranbir won an award for his stellar performance in Sanju. In his acceptance speech, he thanked his father and said, “I would like to dedicate this award to very special people in my life, starting with my father. He is going through a little bit of a rough patch in his life and I have often heard that whenever you come at crossroads in your life, you can really tell who you are as a person.”
He further told the audience about his conversations with his father and said, “Whenever I speak to him, he only talks about movies. He only talks about ‘how is this film?’, ‘how is this film doing?’, ‘how is this performance?’, what are you doing in this scene? And more so, he speaks to me about his insecurities that when he gets back, will he get to work in movies? Whether people will offer him films? Will he be able to act in movies?”
We wish well to the family and Rishi a speedy recovery.
