Karan Johar is back with the eighth edition of his famous chat show Koffee With Karan and what a way to kick off the new season! The opening episode featured the dynamic couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh and it exceeded all my expectations. From Ranveer sharing the heartwarming story of how he fell in love with Deepika to DP expressing her appreciation for Ranveer’s unwavering support during her lowest days…the episode was a full-on emotional ride. But, for me, the real icing on the cake was the couple’s never-before-seen wedding video.
Now, as I savour the memories of last night’s episode, let me share with you all the cute revelations made by Deepika and Ranveer on the KWK couch that are still making my heart flutter.
Ranveer’s First Meeting With Deepika
In the episode, Ranveer revealed that after Kareena Kapoor backed out of Ram Leela, he suggested DP’s name to Sanjay Leela Bhansali. And it was during the first reading of the movie, he felt a connection with the diva. He revealed, “There was a famous or infamous reading for Ram Leela at Mr Bhansali’s home in Versova. I was supposed to meet him before her(Deepika). So I was sitting on the table and the door was like there. And he has these heavy doors and he lives by the seaside. So, these heavy doors open and the gush of wind comes from the sea. And she’s in like white chikankari, looking like some sadgi ki moorat with hair blowing due to the sea. I was like ‘Oh My God’!”
Ranveer Feeling 440 Watt Ka Jhatka
Now this is the cutest part. Ranveer revealed that at the same reading, they had crab for lunch and while eating, he noticed a piece of crab stuck in Deepika’s teeth and brought this to her notice. But instead of getting rattled, DP asked Ranveer to clean it! So he put his pinky finger inside her mouth to clean the piece of crab. But to Ranveer, it felt like putting his hand inside a socket and he instantly felt a 440-watt ka jhatka.
When They Actually Started Dating
Deepika also shared that, at the time of meeting Ranveer, she wasn’t searching for a serious relationship. She had just come out of a difficult relationship and was in a phase of avoiding attachments. However, when Ranveer entered her life, something changed. It wasn’t until he proposed that she truly felt a deep commitment. Interestingly, even when they were technically allowed to see other people, they always gravitated back to each other. There was a constant sense in her mind that she was committed to Ranveer.
The Big Revelation
Ranveer and Deepika almost kept their relationship out of the public radar before finally tying the knot. But now, they’ve opened up about the behind-the-scenes journey. Deepika disclosed that their romance ignited in 2012. It was in 2015 that Ranveer proposed to her. And what’s surprising is that they were secretly engaged for three years before their 2018 wedding. Adding more to the story, Ranveer disclosed that their dating phase began during the filming of Ram Leela. And their connection was very evident on set. They did everything together, from arriving on set side by side to leaving for their vans, they were literally inseparable.
The Dreamy Proposal
Ranveer disclosed that it was during the filming of Ram Leela that he felt he was ready to spend the rest of his life with Deepika. That’s when he decided to take the plunge and put a ring on it. And the proposal itself was nothing short of a romantic adventure. It was during their Maldives vacation. They decided to go on a sandbank adventure in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the vast sea, and it was just two of them. That was the moment when Ranveer popped the question, leaving Deepika hella emotional. And as we know, she said yes, of course!
