Dressed in an all-white outfit, elegantly sitting on a white couch, Simi Garewal interviewed eminent personalities on her chat show Rendezvous With Simi Garewal. The show began in 1997 and ran till 2007, with five seasons and a total of 146 episodes. The chat show was known for acquainting the viewers with their favourite stars and giving a sneak peek into their personal lives. Simi has not only interviewed popular celebs like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan but also Ratan Tata, Jackie Chan, cricketer Bret Lee and many others.
Back in the day, Simi wrote about the chat show on her website, “Rendezvous is very special to me. It’s an extension of who I am. I’ve always had a fascination to know what people are about; how they deal with their lives..failures…successes..loves.. Through 146 episodes – I met amazing people, ranging from political leaders, industrialists, sportsmen, film stars, musicians et al. Each came with different histories and aspirations. Today I feel I have a greater understanding about human beings than I ever did.”
The iconic show is all set to make a comeback after 18 years. This time around, the show will air on Simi’s YouTube channel. In a conversation with a leading daily, Simi spoke about the reboot and revealed her first guests. The Karz actress said, “I have never revealed names till I’ve shot the episode. But I’ll reveal this — Deepika and Ranveer have promised their first interview together for Rendezvous.” She also added that the latest season will feature GenNext stars from Bollywood.
Talking about the format of the show, Simi said, “Why would I change the format to include more gossip and games? People resort to games when they cannot make a conversation. It’s an easy way out! No research needed! But Rendezvous is about getting to ‘know’ the person. I get many messages from viewers saying they are tired of the present format of talk shows.”
