Dangal actress Zaira Wasim’s decision to quit Bollywood shook the internet yesterday. The 18-year-old actress announced that she would be stepping away from acting because it interfered with her relationship with religion. Soon after the actress shared the heartfelt post on Instagram, Twitter was divided. While some supported her decision to quit, others strongly argued against it.

Quick to join the bandwagon was Bollywood actress Raveen Tandon. Taking a jibe at Zaira, Raveena’s tweet read, “Doesn’t matter if two film olds are ungrateful to the industry that have given them all. Just wish they’d exit gracefully and keep their regressive views to themselves.”
Well, she’s really quick to judge a teenager’s personal decision about her faith and career. Is she forgetting that freedom of choice is supreme?
In the following tweet, Raveena wrote, “I standby and love my industry, all the opportunities it gives to everyone. Exit is your choice, reason,by all means.Just do not demean it for everyone else. The industry where all work shoulder to shoulder,no differences, caste, religion or where you come from. #Respect #indianfilms.
In another tweet, she claimed to have understood Zaira’s decision to quit, but she shouldn’t have demeaned the industry. Here’s what she had to say:
Celebrities and political leaders also came out in her support. The makers of her upcoming film The Sky Is Pink supported the actor’s decision. Roy Kapur Films and RSVP, who are producing the film, issued a statement that said Zaira Wasim has been a complete professional throughout. “Zaira is an exceptional artiste and we are lucky to have had her play Aisha Chaudhury in our film, ‘The Sky Is Pink’. She has been a complete professional all through the shoot of the film, which concluded earlier this month. This is a purely personal decision, which she has taken after much thought and we will be supportive of her in every way – now and always,” the statement said.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Who are any of us to question @ZairaWasimmm’s choices? It’s her life to do with as she pleases. All I will do is wish her well & hope that what ever she does makes her happy.”
We wish her love and luck!
