As lucrative as the entertainment industry appears to be, it comes with its share of downsides. For a lot of people in the industry, this manifests in the form of unrealistic beauty standards and body image issues. In the past couple of years, many Bollywood stars have spoken about the pressure they face to undergo cosmetic surgeries, get fillers or botox.
Recently, Radhika Apte opened up about the superficial nature of the film industry and how most stars are not keen to embrace the signs of ageing. In an interview, the Sacred Games star shared, “What I’m really struggling with is (people unable) to combat age, especially in the industry with people going through surgeries. I know so many of my colleagues who have gone through so many surgeries to change their faces and bodies.”
Radhika added, “I just can’t cope with it. And I don’t see a lot of people standing up for it or standing against it. In fact, (there are) people who talk about body positivity themselves and they have gone through so many things. I am a bit tired of that and I find it very, very challenging.”
NGL, we have mixed feelings towards Radhika’s statement. As problematic as the entire idea of surgically altering one’s body might be for some, but should you judge people for it?
Celebs often give in to the pressure to look a certain way but if they are not hurting anyone, is there any harm in getting a botox or a filler? At the end of the day, it’s their decision and if they’re happy taking that call, isn’t that the most important thing?
However, we do understand it can be overwhelming to see celebs not practising what they preach. In the last couple of years, many Bollywood actors have spoken about the pressure to maintain a youthful appearance but they avoid doing anything to change the situation.
We surely admire Radhika’s refreshing honesty when it comes to her opinions about Bollywood. However, this time we don’t agree with her. What do you think?
