The world was first introduced to Priyanka Chopra when, at the age of 18, she won the Miss World title. It is hard to imagine a teenager bearing the responsibility of representing her country, but PC was born ready for fame. But did you know the Mary Kom star made a massive mistake during her Miss World journey?
During the final round of the global beauty pageant, Priyanka was asked “Who is the living woman you admire the most and why?” Priyanka responded, “There are a lot of people I admire, but one person I admire is Mother Teresa, who has been so compassionate, considerate and kind. Her selflessness and dedication to her work have been an inspiration to me.” Scroll down for the video:
While the answer was admirable, it wasn’t factually correct. Mother Teresa passed away in 1997. Hence PC’s answer was not right. But her confidence and poise did make a mark on the judges ‘coz she did win.
It has been over two decades since Priyanka walked the runway for Miss World 2000. Her life changed after winning the title. In an interview, PC confessed that she had no idea that she would win the pageant.
Priyanka said, “It (winning Miss World) was not a goal – it wasn’t even a thought in my head. I thought there was no way I would win, definitely not for beauty. The girls who participated that year were truly the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen. I thought my strengths were my eloquence, the way I think, and confidence. I can talk to anyone. Beauty never was.”
I am proud of how Priyanka carried herself when she was barely an adult. At 18, she was representing the country, meanwhile, at 27 I am yet to fold my laundry. Well, we all have our stories!
