Priyanka Chopra Reveals Why She Decided To Do ‘Jee Le Zara’ & It’s All About Smashing Patriarchy

When Alia Bhatt signed Gangubai Kathiawadi, the grapevine was abuzz that there was a cold war going on between her and Deepika Padukone. Something similar happened when DP made her debut in Hollywood with XXX: Return of Xander Cage in 2017. She was instantly pitted against Priyanka Chopra, who had already established her foot in the industry. For several years, we have heard that two leading actresses can never be good friends. But, the reality is quite different.

During a recent interview with an international daily, Priyanka talked about the sexism that existed in Bollywood when she started her career. She was frequently pitted against other actresses and it took a lot of time for them to establish sisterhood in the industry. PC also shared that this was a major reason why she decided to sign Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming movie, Jee Le Zara.

PC will be sharing screen space with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif in the film that’s based on an all-girls road trip. It’s not every day that we see three leading actresses of B-town come together for a movie. Obviously, it is a big deal. While talking about it, The Quantico star revealed that it was a conscious decision and said, “I’m doing a movie in India now with two of the top actresses in the country, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt, and the three of us decided we wanted to do a movie together and partner together to produce it.”

Priyanka said that during the early 2000s, the casting of actresses was dependent on their male co-stars. While talking about the competition she had to face in the industry, she said, “There was competition because in any predominantly patriarchal society, women are pitted against each other and there’s just one that can be the best.”

NGL, but the concept of pitting women against women is common in every profession and in personal life as well. But thankfully, times are changing. Priyanka added, “Over time, I think especially in my generation, we’ve all made immense strides in digging in our feet and creating a sisterhood, which I’m very proud to be part of now as a community.”

We’re glad that PC, Kat and Alia are changing the age-old notion that feeds us with the BS that women bring other women down. Seriously, patriarchy can take the backseat now ‘coz women support women.
