Priyanka Chopra Reveals She Faced Racist Bullying In School & It’s Breaking Our Heart

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is our favourite star. This Bollywood actor-turned-Hollywood queen has made us proud by making her mark in the global entertainment industry. Recently, PC also announced the release of her memoir, titled Unfinished, set to release on February 9. Her memoir will take us through her life story from her childhood in India, her teenage years in the US to her global acting career.

In a recent interview with People Magazine, while talking about her memoir, PC opened up about facing racial bullying during her time at American High School. She further said that her confidence plummeted after that. The bullying lowered her self-esteem and pushed her to go back to India to finish her schooling. The actress shared that the other girls in the school insulted her and said, ‘Brownie, go back to your country’ and ‘Go back on the elephant you came on’.

Speaking to the magazine, PC said, “I took it very personally. Deep inside, it starts gnawing at you. I went into a shell. I was like, ‘Don’t look at me. I just want to be invisible’. My confidence was stripped. I’ve always considered myself a confident person, but I was very unsure of where I stood, of who I was.”

In spite of all the racist slurs being thrown at her, the actress didn’t give up and went on to seek aid from the school counsellor and also tried seeking refuge with her group of friends but nothing worked. PC shared that during this time she sort of ‘broke up with America’ and decided to go back to India where her life took a turn.

“I was so blessed that when I went back to India, I was surrounded by so much love and admiration for who I was. Going back to India healed me after that experience in high school. In America, I was trying not to be different. Right? I was trying to fit in and I wanted to be invisible. When I went to India, I chose to be different,” said PC.

India really did help the actress heal and the proof is in what she has to say about her bullies!

“I don’t even blame the city, honestly. I just think it was girls who, at that age, just want to say something that’ll hurt. Now, at the other side of 35, I can say that it probably comes from a place of them being insecure. But at that time, I took it very personally,” shared PC.

You go, girl!

PC moved to the US at the age of 13 to study. She stayed with her aunt and attended schools in Newton, Massachusetts, Iowa and New York City. After three years of schooling in the US, the actress returned to India to finish her senior year of high school.

PC, we’re so proud of who you are today. More power to you girl!
