The trailer of Pati, Patni Aur Woh starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday is out. The movie is a remake of the 1978 movie of the same name. It’s been 41 years since the first movie and I’m sorry to be the one bursting your bubble, the remake is just as sexist and offensive.
The movie revolves around Kartik (the pati), Bhumi (the patni) and Ananya (the woh). It is a classic depiction of stereotyping women where Bhumi plays the role of a nagging wife in conservative, Indian clothes. Ananya, on the other hand, yep, you guessed it –wears modern, western and might we say fewer clothes than his wife. Kartik plays the role of the ‘bechara’ husband, trapped between these two gorgeous women. But, that’s not even where the problems seem to begin. The trailer checks all the boxes that are needed to fit into an archaic category. It pokes fun at marital rape! Here, have a look:
Biwi se sex maang le toh hum bhikhari
Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari
Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex nikal le toh hum balaatkaari
Seriously, at a time where we as a country are still struggling to have serious laws in place about marital rape, Bollywood chooses to joke about it? Kartik seems to have a knack for choosing one sexist role after another! And what’s even more alarming is that Bhumi Pednekar in an interview with Tribune India claims that the movie is not sexist or frivolous. Does NOBODY see the sheer number of offences in just the trailer?
“It’s a situational comedy but it’s not frivolous. It’s empowering to both the genders. There’s nobody who is black-and-white in real life too. I think the makers have been conscious to make sure they do not turn this into a sexist, baseless film. I think everybody who’s part of this film, be it Bhushan sir, Juno or Mudassar sir, belong to that school of thought. This could go wrong so easily but they have been sensitive and careful. It’s a big achievement” Bhumi had told the publication.
Twitter Also Seems To Have Some Serious Opinions About The Trailer
Well, B-town and the makers of the movie don’t seem to be in their right mind. Here are some of the reactions:
How and why do they think rape is a joke?
I will pay good money to see a journalist or literally anyone ask the people associated with #PatiPatniAurWoh how and why they think rape is a joke.

This is dismal
"Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari
Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari
Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai"I don't expect anything from a Kartik Aaryan movie but this is dismal https://t.co/q61BFOmD38

Reducing consent & #MeToo to a joke!
At 1.17, @TheAaryanKartik's character laments how "kisi tarah jugad laga sex hasil karne se" 'poor' men are labelled as rapists.
Reducing consent & #MeToo to a joke, this is film making?
Shame on you, @TheAaryanKartik & makers of #PatiPatniAurWoh !https://t.co/TbzcX13SGH
