Are we still overlining our lips in 2022? In the process of attaining bigger, juicier looking lips, things got quite out of hand, or should we say way ‘over the line’. The craze of getting those Kylie Jenner type lips made many influencers try out just about everything to get that juicy pout. Now, we aren’t hating on overlining, because when done right, it can look absolutely gorg. It’s also the best way to get that defined pout without resorting to derma fillers. However, considering that all-over over lining doesn’t work for every lip shape, this year we are taking a slightly different approach.
Over The Line
See that? That’s overlining and it is quite flattering on Kylie. Overlining is when you draw over your lip line with a lip liner and then fill within the lines with lipstick. The key is to stick to the outline of your lips and not go too overboard as that will look unrealistic. Anyone with super-thin lips will benefit from this hack; it’s truly a godsend.
How We’re Lining In 2022
This guy spotted it. Rihanna has been underlining her lips at the sides and that’s also exactly what the recent viral lip contouring hack started by Makeup by Mario is all about. The hack requires you to only overline at your Cupid’s bow and at the centre of your lower lip. Once that’s done, take the lip liner sloping to your original lip line for the sides and corners of your lip.
Here’s How You Do It!
This tutorial, clearly shows how you overline only the centre of your upper and lower lip while underlining the rest of your lips. This does actually work on all lip shapes and gives a more natural effect. Unlike the all-over overlining, this lip hack can jump from IG to IRL without you having to worry about looking weird from your side profile.
Pro Tip: If you want lips like Rihanna, emphasise your Cupid’s bow with curves or angles while overlining it, instead of drawing a straight line.
A More Hands-On Approach
If you can put the time and effort into faking fuller lips like a total pro. Here’s what you gotta do.
Step-By-Step Guide
- Begin with exfoliating and moisturisng your lips.
- Dab foundation or concealer on your lips to even out pigmentation.
- Use a contour stick to shape your lips by applying it above your Cupid’s bow and underneath your lower lip.
- Outline only the Cupid’s Bow and centre of the lower lip, while underlining the sides.
- Use a darker lip pencil to fill in the sides of your lips.
- Swipe a nude lipstick all over your lips and then use a lighter nude lipstick only on the centre of your lips.
- Finish with a swipe of gloss.
What do you think of this new way of defining your lip shape? We are already on board with the trend and are loving how it works wonders for our pout.
