Actress Nia Sharma is receiving flak for a brand endorsement for women. But it’s not the run-of-the-mill fairness cream. It’s something much more problematic.
The actress recently shared a video on her Instagram account promoting a vaginal tightening cream—yes, you read that right. In the video, she’s heard saying, “Do it right, keep it tight,” which is as problematic as it sounds. The video begins by showing Nia wearing loose-fitting jeans, a loose cap, and untied shoes, then transitions to promoting the vaginal tightening cream, claiming it’s safe with zero side effects. If this doesn’t make you feel a bit uncomfortable, it might be time for a reality check.

Of course, people were quick to call her out and thankfully, it didn’t turn into a debate since Nia failed to find any supporters.
Celebrities are human too and we can’t expect them to be holier than thou, but this right here is being totally ignorant! When a celebrity with massive influence promotes a product, we assume they’ve done some kind of thinking and research behind it besides just the financial paperwork.
Nia endorsing a vaginal tightening cream is troubling for many reasons. The actress is a household name and many young and middle-aged women look up to her for her talent and never-back-down attitude. A person with that kind of impact holds some responsibility towards her followers.
As women, we’re already frustrated by societal stereotypes and vaginal tightening is just another regressive, patriarchal expectation aimed at satisfying male pleasure. Vaginal creams are harmful and unsafe and the ad reeks of misinformation. We really thought you would know better, Nia! And to our young readers, we want to say — don’t believe a word she said!
