The international fashion world has Diet Prada but its desi version Diet Sabya has been on a path to fashion glory by calling out copy-cats. The fall out of that of course, now thanks to him, more people know where to snag a knock-off. Want to how that happened? Welcome to the crazy world that is social media. Diet Sabya is an anonymous Instagram account that has blown up in the past few months. Dedicated to exposing designers who are copycats or claim to be “inspired” by other brands, this handle sure has the entire tinsel town buzzing (and also terrified.)
The watchdog account eats plagiarist designers and stylists for breakfast, so there’s no escaping now.
However, for broke millennials, who most likely can’t afford a Sabyasachi or a Manish Arora for a friend’s wedding, this is like a ‘kunji’. Thanks to Diet Sabya, they now know these small brands that replicate trending designs. Check them out:
1. Belluccio
Diet Sabya called out this brand for copying the H&M creation worn by Jasmine Sanders. Their golden gown was worn by Urvashi Rautela at a red carpet. But we did some digging and they actually have a beautiful collection of gowns — we’re not sure how many are knock-offs, though. Belluccio is now fairly popular for brides looking for outfits for a wedding reception or an Indo-western party during the shaadi celebrations.
2. Sunaina Khera
Sunaina Khera got roasted for plagiarising Monique Lhuillier worn by Deepika Padukone. The “inspired” dress was worn by Yami Gautam. When we looked into this designer, we noticed she has creations both Indian as well as western.
3. Hazoorilal Jewellers
Who wants a Sabyasachi when you have Hazoorlilal? JK, everyone wants them a Saya. However, obviously, Diet Sabya spotted the family jeweller has a lot of designs that are ‘blatant’ copies of Sabyasachi’s jewellery line. We would guess there’s a fair bit of price difference between the two brands, probably works for all those who want the look but don’t want to pay the extra for the designer’s name?
4. Anoli Shah
Anoli Shah got called out by Diet Sabya for dressing Pooja Hegde in an Anamika Khanna signature silhouette. But that hasn’t quite stopped the Ahmedabad based designer making more collections for brides. From lehengas to suits and Indo-western outfits, brides are enjoying browsing outfits for their D-Day.
5. Disha Patil
Diet Sabya absolutely dug Disha Patil’s grave when he/she called her out for blatantly copying designs and not even bothering to change the colour of their creation. Diet Sabya even put the onus on top bloggers like Masoom Minawala and House of Misu for promoting these copycats.
6. Shri Ram Hari Ram Jewellers
The master of gems Viren Bhagat was the #inspo for this brand- Shri Ram Hari Ram Jewellers. Many celebs have won and rocked accessories from here, however Diet Sabya was quick to point out the copy cats.
7. Rippii Sethi
This one got it good, Diet Sabya went absolutely savage and gave it off more than once to Rippii Sethi for promoting a copied Manish Arora skirt. And now brides have discovered it as a great budget option when they shop for outfits for smaller wedding functions or if they are simply guests attending a function and don’t want to blow their budget.
