“I hate to see you leave, but I love to watch you walk away”, a cheeky line in pop culture that makes women swoon instantly! This expression was given a whole new meaning at the Lakme Fashion Week 2018 when the designers decided to add eccentric details to the backs of their creations. The shows had us swinging our heads in all directions, trying not to miss even a single back detail on the outfits while the models strut back and forth down the runway! Looking back at the shows (pun intended!) we picked some of our favourite moments for you to adore and admire.
The Shyamal & Bhumika bridal collection called ‘Wonderland’ was a showcase of contemporary gowns, lehengas and blouse designs for the summer bride. With an aim to give a global appeal to the outfits, the backs came in all forms of geometric cuts, bow ties and sheer panels. For young brides who crave excitement in every aspect of their weddings, these gorgeous backs will have them reaching for sleek buns and ponytails for days on end!
SVA’s LFW presentation was brought to life by a combination of off-white hues and delicate blues. Double strap choli backs, pleated trails and even the traditional deep U-backs made an appearance on the runway. The bridal designer duo Sonam & Paras Modi’s detailed silhouettes focussed on making this collection apt for a spring/summer soiree, wedding or cocktail. Thus adding subtle changes to the backs of these intricate sarees and lehengas.
A risqué back design back if there ever was one! Neha Agarwal’s brand Agami was in top form with the strappy details. Showcasing at the 6 degree platform, an outlet for all things experimental, this backless choli is a definite highlight for us.
With back designs at the LFW, it came down to who can top whom with the most innovative alterations. An awesome detail we spotted with one of the designers Punit Balana, whose “missing panels” charmed our young hearts to no end. Talk about a choli that will go with all your lehengas and jeans alike!
Not all of the designers went for a peek at the skin with their back designs. Designer Ridhi Mehra chose to display most of her creativity in the form of sheer backs and detailed back panelled Spanish open jackets. Trims like jaal, tassels, zardozi, ostrich feathers and bugle beads use to create embroidery like details were all kinds of pretty and chic!
