I first saw Saurabh at my sister’s engagement. He was tall, good looking and caught my attention immediately. He was busy with his phone and didn’t even notice me. He seemed like a decent guy, he was friendly with everyone. I kept observing him throughout the function and by the end of the day I had developed a huge crush on him. I didn’t even know his name then.
I told my friends about this and they were really surprised; I had always been the kind of girl who was least bothered about boys, crushes and dating. They said that I was finally behaving like a typical teenager girl.
I was eagerly waiting for my sister’s wedding so that I could see him again. On the wedding day, my eyes were glued to the entrance of the hall. And then he entered, dressed in a white shirt and trousers. My heart skipped a beat when I saw him. I really wanted him to notice me, I wanted to at least find out his name, but I knew I would not be able to sum up the courage to talk to him.
While I was trying to figure out how to find out more about him, an uncle came up to me. He was related to my brother-in-law, and we were having a conversation when I suddenly heard someone say, “Dad, I think we should leave now.” I turned around and there stood my crush, right next to me. I suddenly felt my knees go weak and my cheeks turn pink. Uncle introduced his son to me and told me his name. Saurabh smiled at me and said, “Hi”.
I was lost to the whole world. During the course of the two-day ceremony I met his dad a couple of times more, but still didn’t muster enough courage or get the chance to talk to Saurabh.
In my quest to find out more about him, I discovered a rather heartbreaking news that Saurbah was actually seeing this girl, who was a distant relative of my brother-in-law. I had become pally with the girl during the wedding and she told me there was something going on between them. I was shattered; my love story was over even before it could begin. I still remember how I cried that day. It took me a few months to actually stop thinking about him but somehow I managed to move on. Every time anyone would speak of love or crush, he would be the first one to come to my mind.
I put the whole thing behind me and moved on in life. Though I would still feel a little strange whenever I met him at family functions, I had made peace with the fact that nothing could happen between us.
After my graduation, my family started looking for a prospective husband for me. Most of my relatives were on the lookout for a suitable match for me. Initially, I refused to meet the guys they had suggested. I was just not ready to think about marriage. But eventually I gave up and agreed to meet a certain guy my sister kept insisting me to meet. She claimed that I would be lucky to have this guy as a life partner.
I had given in to my family’s wish so I didn’t even ask anything about this guy. I decided to meet him and then reject him; that way I could tell my family that I did try and they wouldn’t bother me for at least a couple of months.
On the day when the guy and his family were supposed to come, I could smell the sweet aroma of delicacies being prepared. I let my sister deck me up like a Christmas tree. Everyone was excited about the whole thing while I was thinking how futile all this was because I was going to say no to this rishta.
When my niece announced that the guy and his family had arrived, I got nervous and I couldn’t stop my tears. Before anybody could see me, I composed myself and got ready to face them. I had made a mental note of what all I would tell the guy before rejecting him. I went over those points again and went to the living room and then I heard a familiar voice. How could I ever forget that voice? The moment I saw the guy I froze and my heart started racing. It was Saurabh – my first crush.
His family members started asking me questions and I just couldn’t stop smiling and blushing. They left after about an hour and immediately my dad got a call, the guy had said yes and they wanted to know my answer. “Saurabh wants to marry me, the guy I had such a huge crush on likes me!”, the thought kept coming to my mind. Still, I told my family that I need time to think… however I guess my sister could read the answer on my face.
Saurabh and I recently celebrated our first anniversary and we are madly in love with each other. I told him about my crush on him and often tease him for being so insensitive and not noticing me. He says that he didn’t have the slightest idea about the fact that I had a crush on him.
When I think about the day I saw him for the first time and the way I had felt, I believe that we were meant to be together. Nine years ago destiny had given me the hint about the man I would spend the rest of my life with. 😉
