Namrata Soni Predicts Beauty Trends That’ll Be Big This Summer

If there’s one makeup artist almost every Bollywood celebrity has worked with (and swears by), it is Namrata Soni. She also worked with Athiya Shetty who delivered abundant bridal beauty inspiration very recently. Soni, who has been in the industry for 22 years now, also launched her own beauty brand Simplynam which is specially meant for Indian women.

In a candid chat, Namrata took me through the trends that she thinks will be big this summer, products that she thinks are over-rated, and even shared the trick on how to achieve that lit-from-within glow!

Scroll to know the deets.

What according to you are over-rated skincare and makeup products?

In skincare, I think face oil is not required for everyone. And in makeup, I feel a contour palette is not necessary. You just need a concealer/liquid foundation in a darker shade to achieve the same look.

A hair trend you think is going to be big in summer?

Natural, beautiful waves as opposed to the forced, tight curls that are doing the rounds. And when it comes to hair colour, I think platinum-ashy tones will be big.

A makeup trend you think will be big in summer?

Flushed cheeks and dewy skin is going to be everywhere.

What is the trick behind achieving that dewy glow?

It is most important to use a moisturiser that’s meant for your skin type. That’s the first step. Then, apply a liquid highlighter on your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and on your eyelids. Finally, top this off with a cream blush for that flushed look.

Who was the easiest celebrity bride to work with?

Sonam Kapoor.

What are some products you think should be in every girl’s handbag?

Red lipstick, black mascara, lip oil, and blush.

What is one thing you wish more makeup artists understood?

More than anything, I feel MUAs need to know the basics of their makeup. A lot of them are self-taught from YouTube, which is not the right way to become a makeup artist. It is important to know how to use a colour corrector, the right shade for a particular skin tone because in India every tone is so different. I think it’s important to invest in your own education first.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

I love my job! The smile I see on the bride’s face when she’s ready is so satisfying. It gives me so much joy to make someone feel happy about the way they look.

Soni previously even broke down Athiya’s bridal beauty looks for me! You can check it out here.
