After bursting onto the TV scene in 2007 with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mouni Roy began her small-screen career as a typecast of the girl next door. Signing up for the role of Sati in Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev only cemented this image until Mouni decided to go for an overhaul. Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin landed as the perfect opportunity and there was Mouni–free of the mould and shining like the star that she is.
Since her successful run as Indian TV’s OG Naagin, Mouni has constantly worked on her style and has truly evolved as small screen’s numero uno fashionista. In the past couple of years, she has managed to develop an independent sense of style that is a fine amalgamation of retro-Bollywood glamm and contemporary silhouettes. Today, as Mouni turns 36, we look back at some of her stand-out fashion moments that had us truly hooked. Scroll Through:
Desi Girl Today, Desi Girl Tomorrow, Desi Girl Forever
A fine mix of traditional details and modern lines, Mouni’s desi wear wardrobe is no short of a wonder. A quick peek into her closet and our bet is that you’d be lost like Alice in Wonderland. We are pretty sure that it is the bedazzling glittery separates that’d be sitting at the top of her Indian wear stack ‘coz let’s be clear–no one loves a generous drizzle of sequins like Mouni Roy. Case in point? This striking Kalki Fashion saree that she wore for a music launch event earlier this year:
This silver saree will have you convinced that in Mouni’s world, there is no such thing as too much glitter:
It really doesn’t get more regal than a solid red saree delicately draped around the shoulders like a silken stole and paired with bold black sunnies. Mouni knows that damn well and her ruffled red saree look is proof:
An opulent Banarasi, jhumkis, and that smoldering gaze–we are lovestruck!
Mouni’s arsenal of breezy lehengas is almost as stunning as her collection of sarees and this Chamee & Palak bandhani beauty is definitely our favourite one from the lot:
In case you have a thing for all things pristine, this antique gota work, the off-white ensemble will find a coveted space in your save folder:
There’s no way we are letting you claim allegiance with the desi girl fashion clan unless you have at least one Chikankari outfit. Mouni has got her game sorted in that department:
Western Chic
Just because Mouni knows how to bring her A-game in Indian wear does not mean that she lacks in Western aesthetics. Not at all. In fact, she might as well be the most refined contemporary dresser out there armed with an array of stylish monotone outfits. Top on our list is this fitted pin-stripe dress:
Championing her love for blinding glitter, Mouni can be seen incorporating some glitz in an itsy-bitsy cobalt blue dress and complimenting foil-finish boots:
Faux leather pants are raging hot right now and Mouni shows us how to style the separate in this recent picture:
The layering season is upon us and this tailored look will help you with ample dressing inspiration. Also, brownie points to Mouni for ushering in the knee-high boot trend that is only going to get bigger from here:
Experimenting with fits and silhouettes is what keeps Mouni’s style game ahead of the rest. Simple yet statement, this tie-on dhoti skirt and crop top outfit is proof:
Green colour is trending on the most fashion-forward websites right now and Mouni gives us the perfect hue to admire in this knotted co-ord set:
Here’s wishing Indian TV’s very own style maven a very happy birthday!
