I never thought I’d hear a celebrity say they don’t like in-salon facials, but here we are. Mira Kapoor actually despises getting a facial at the salon so much, that she has never gotten one in her entire life! She even ignored her friends and family’s advice when they told her to get a bridal facial done before her wedding day.
Mira revealed exactly why she doesn’t like to get a facial done by a professional and does her own DIY facial ritual at home instead. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself.
Mira Kapoor’s Take On ‘Bridal Facials’
While discussing her DIY beauty secrets in an Instagram post, Mira said, “I’ve never actually gotten a facial. I remember when I was getting married and everyone was like ‘Oh you must do this facial’ and you know like there’s this concept of ‘bridal facial’ and I was like no way. I’m not letting anybody touch my face. I don’t know what they’re going to do to it.”
In-salon facials aren’t for everybody and definitely not for Mira Kapoor. Reason being, Mira knows her skin type best and that’s why she’d rather not risk having unknown skincare products and steps used on her skin by a facialist. While many people do swear by in-salon facials and bridal facials, some people experience skin trouble due to certain products used in these treatments that don’t agree with their skin.
Mira Kapoor’s DIY Facial Ritual
Mira said that instead of visiting a professional facialist, she follows her own DIY facial ritual at home with all-natural ingredients.
Step 1: Nimbu Exfoliation
Mira said, “I start off by cutting a nimbu and putting it on my face straight there because once you start putting it, the nimbu fibers become brush-like. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to try it out but dilute the lemon juice because it is highly acidic. First, the nimbu, it does sting, but I like that. I actually like the after-effect of it, which is squeaky clean skin.”
This step is to be practiced with caution since lemon is an astringent and can irritate the skin. A patch test should be done before using nimbu directly on your skin. It is recommended to keep this on for only 5 minutes or less.
Step 2: DIY Face Mask
“Once I’m done with the lemon juice and I’ve removed it from my face, I like to put on a mask. Now this mask is basically besan and dahi,” Mira said adding that you can add just about anything depending on your skin condition or your preferences. “I like to put whatever I have available at that point of time. So it’s besan, dahi, and orange peel or sandalwood powder or moringa powder or neem powder. Sometimes I tend to put a little bit of saffron. Some rose water to cut the smell. And you just mix it up, put it on your face,” explained Mira.
Besan and dahi do make for a great face mask base that works on all skin types. Mira recommends washing off the mask before it completely dries and she also says to use circular motions to rinse this off so it doubles as a gentle face scrub.
Step 3: Tomato Peel
Following the mask, Mira applies tomato juice to her skin. “So you just cut a tomato, again rub it straight on your face. And again it’s the malic acid in the tomatoes that really really works. I let the tomato be on my face for another 10-12 minutes,” she said.
This step of applying a layer of tomato juice over the skin acts like a gentle natural chemical exfoliator. It also helps remove tan and makes the skin super smooth.
Step 4: Aloe Vera Hydration
For the final step of her DIY facial ritual, Mira said, “Then there’s the last step, aloe vera. The aloe vera just cools your skin, tightens it, tones it, and once I’ve removed the aloe vera, I can feel like my skin is breathing.”
Hydrating the skin with a layer of aloe vera gel will keep your skin’s pH levels in check too.
Mira Kapoor’s DIY facial ritual is as good and in some cases, even better than an in-salon one. Just make sure to apply a sunscreen like the POPxo H2O Booster Sunscreen Gel, after following this DIY facial ritual during the day.
