The MET Gala 2023 is extra special for us desi peeps as Alia Bhatt, our very own patakha guddi, made her red carpet debut. Dolled up in a pure white princess gown by Prabal Gurung and styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Alia def made India proud!
But if you thought Alia’s ensemble was the only desi connection to the Met Gala this year, we have a surprise for you. Cuz there’s more! Scroll down:
Presenting To You, The ‘Made In India’ Carpet At Met 2023!
If you’re also a fashion gworl like me, you might have zoomed in on the thousands of Met Gala pictures and noticed every trivial detail in the frame. But I bet you didn’t know that the coveted red carpet has been designed and made in India with a pinch of videshi tadka.
The carpet has been made by Neytt by Extraweave, a Kerela-based textile company. It was then painted by US-based painters and was finally done in 60 days. Now this is what we call an epic cultural collaboration!
The Met Gala 2023 also saw a lot of global celebs flaunting saree gowns, owing to Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic Paris-Bombay collection 2012-2013, which included maang tikkas, brocades and suits. From Isha Ambani’s saree gown by Prabal Gurung to Gigi Hadid’s Givenchy gown with a saree-like drape, a bunch of attendees showed up with an Indian touch. Such a proud moment, I must say!
Here’s wishing we achieve greater milestones in future!
