The entire world has been hit by the pandemic, putting a significant strain on various industries, and weddings are no exception. Several couples have had to ditch their plans of having a big fat wedding and shift to virtual or more intimate setups. And it’s not just the guest list and venue that have seen a shift, couples are keeping the decor to a minimal, the outfits are more relaxed and in some cases, bride’s have had to do their own makeup!
Meet Sonam Pall, a Hawaii-based fashion enthusiast who married beau Rohan Jetley in an intimate Hindu ceremony at her aunt’s house. Sonam, who hails from Delhi had originally planned to tie the knot in India but the COVID-19 crisis forced the couple to rethink their wedding plans. With a little over two weeks to plan, they had a beautiful ceremony on June 29, 2020, where their extended family and friends joined them virtually.
TBH, if someone told me that I have two weeks to prep for my wedding, I would’ve completely flipped out. But Sonam handled it like a pro. With the wedding venue sorted, the new bride said that they went for simple flower decoration. With a day wedding and the ocean serving as the backdrop, they didn’t need to do much. While she wore a lehenga she had bought a while ago, her husband’s attire was put together on a video call. She even made sure that one person from the wedding party was responsible for the Zoom call to ensure that everyone joining virtually got a glimpse of every little detail. As for the food, Sonam shared that Hawaii has a lot of good Indian restaurants who were happy to deliver to the venue, keeping all safety measures in mind.

Like many other brides, Sonam chose to do her bridal makeup herself and looked absolutely lovely. She told us everything about the products she used and how she achieved that flawless look. So if you’re a bride-to-be who is planning to turn MUA for her wedding, here’s some inspiration!
The Makeup Deets
“Not underdone or overdone, my makeup was simple, elegant yet flirty, soft, feminine and yet glamorous enough to be camera-friendly,” Sonam shared. Here’s how she created her bridal look:

Hydrate Your Skin
She started off by moisturizing her skin with the True Cream Aqua Bomb by belif, which is a gel-based moisturizer that provides extreme hydration.
Do Not Skip The Primer
After moisturizing her face, she used a pore minimiser, POREfessional Primer by Benefit to even out her skin tone. The product is light-weight, oil-free and helps the makeup stay put.
The Perfect Base!
Once she had applied the primer evenly on her face, she went on to the high cover foundation by Giorgio Armani, Power Fabric (shade – SPF 25).

The Gorgeous Eye Makeup
She went for subtle shimmer on the eyes with the Starry-Eyed Baked Eyeshadow Trio by LORAC. With a touch of gold towards her inner eye, copper towards the outer corners and bronze in the centre, Sonam completely aced the look. She also added a touch of gold in the middle of her eyelids and blended it for a uniform look.
Rendezvous and Manish Malhotra 4 in 1 Eyeshadow Palette – Front Row by MyGlamm is another great alternative to achieve this look:
Sonam finished her look with a winged eyeliner by MAC and tons of mascara. She used the Extreme Dimension 3D Back Lash by MAC for those gorgeous lashes. As for the eyebrows, the Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set by MAC (Brown Ebony) helped her define them to perfection.
Blush Baby Blush!
To get those perfectly rosy cheeks, Sonam used two different blush palettes by MAC – Sheertone Shimmer Blush Breezy and Sheertone Blush – Pinch Me (which is a matte palette). Both the sets have darker tones, which were the perfect contrast against her skin.

Highlighter? Yes, But Not Too Much!
Sonam had a day-wedding so she didn’t want to go overboard with her highlighter. She used Hyper Real Glow Palette by MAC which has three tones – gold, copper and bronze. Sonam used the gold highlighter right above her cheekbones, on the tip of the nose and on the chin. She used a lighter tone to highlight the centre of her upper lip. The bride went with a copper tone on the sides of her nose and the jawline for the contouring effect, and we must say, she absolutely nailed it.
Given that it was going to be a sunny day, she finished her makeup with the Studio Fix compact by MAC (NC 25).
Not Without My Red Lipstick!
To create that perfect shade of red, Sonam used a combination of two red lipsticks – Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Velours Liquid Matte Lipstick (shade 172) and red lipstick by MAC Red (A 95).

Coming to her bridal outfit, the fashionista wore a simple yet elegant red lehenga by designer Siddartha Tytler, which was perfect for a destination like Hawaii. While the net lehenga had a lovely brocade fabric under it, the applique work and the velvet looked oh-so stunning! She wore a matching corset backless blouse in red and gold and carried two dupattas – a net dupatta with a simple border and a second one with heavy applique work in gold and velvet. “The lehenga is traditional and yet has a modern vibe to it. The red hues in the lehenga are fully reflective of the Hindu culture and that’s what I loved,” said Sonam.

Here’s What Sonam Suggests If You’re Doing Your Own Bridal Makeup!
Sonam’s mantra: Keep It Safe!
We and Sonam both agree that this is one time in your lives when you would want to look for references online but she suggests you stick to the basics if you’re doing your own makeup.
“It’s okay to get inspired from a picture but don’t try to replicate it as it’s not something that you’ve done and you may/may not have the time to experiment with looks if it goes wrong. I would also suggest the lockdown brides to focus on great coverage. This is one occasion where the camera is going to be on you all the time and from all different angles, so do a good job on coverage and concealing”, the bride shared.

Given the pandemic we’re all battling at the moment, the bride cleaned everything including the makeup brushes and the palettes even though she was using her own makeup. Her aunt’s house to underwent deep cleaning and sanitisation by professionals before the ceremony. “As soon as I reached my aunt’s place, I sanitised the surface of the table myself before starting my makeup. My hairstylist was wearing a mask and a face shield too. I had three bottles of sanitisers in the bridal room,” she added.
Kudos to the couple for pulling off such a beautiful ceremony in such a short time and at a time like this! We wish Sonam and Rohan tons of love and happiness in times to come.
