Beauty blenders and brushes were every makeup enthusiasts go-to at one point. Now, not just makeup artists, but even celebrities are going back to the basics when it comes to makeup application.
Kylie Jenner recently revealed how she achieves her go-to makeup look in a video and her choice of tools, for the most part, were her hands!
The mother-of-two and beauty mogul kickstarted the video by talking about how her makeup look has changed over the years. “I wear a lot less but I’ve accomplished the same snatched look“.
The Kylie Cosmetics founder begins by taking two pumps of moisturiser on her index and middle fingers and adding a foundation over it. Then, instead of using a makeup brush or beauty blender to layer it on her face, Jenner mixes the formulas between both her hands and directly applies it to her face with her fingertips. She massages it into the skin on her cheeks, forehead chin, and nose.
“I do feel like now that I’m using my hands more, it is, I don’t know, it’s like an intimate experience. My foundation just looks different. I feel way more natural. I like how it blends into my skin a lot better,” Kylie explained.
She then applied concealer under her eyes, on the bridge of her nose, and on her chin and blended it well with her middle finger. Only when it came to her bronzer, blush, and eyeshadow, did she use a brush to lightly dab it on her skin for a soft, flushed look.
But Kylie isn’t the first celebrity to talk about how she loves using her fingers to apply makeup. Kora Organics founder and former model, Miranda Kerr also believes in the warmth of the fingers to help the foundation melt into the skin for a flawless finish.
There is a certain logic to this. Cream products blend easily with fingers since the body heat tends to melt the makeup which in turn helps distribute the product better and blend into the skin seamlessly.
Tips To Keep In Mind While Applying Makeup With Your Fingers
Start With Clean Hands
No matter how clean your hands may look, there is always a certain amount of dirt on them. You don’t want this mixing with any open pores or gashes on your skin so wash your hands before applying makeup with them.

Take The Foundation On Your Hand
You can either apply the foundation at the back of your hand or on your fingertips like Kylie does and then dot it over your face.

Blend From The Centre
With the help of your fingertips, blend the foundation from the centre and then move outwards towards your hairline. Ensure you are massaging the product into the crevices and folds along your nose and jaw for full coverage.
Wash Your Hands Again & Repeat
Before you begin with the next product like a concealer or blush, wash your hands again. This is to ensure there is no product build-up on your fingers and the makeup doesn’t look cakey.
