Earlier this week, KL Rahul was dropped from the ongoing third Test against Australia. While this was a decision made by the team management, the internet trolls blamed his wife.
Social media trolls instantly jumped at the opportunity to bash Athiya for Rahul’s performance. ‘Coz, of course, it is always the woman’s fault!
Trolls started calling Athiya ‘bad luck’ and made memes about the couple. While KL Rahul has been consistently doing well on the field, every time he slips up, Athiya’s name gets dragged through the mud.
Why Blame Athiya?
Does Rahul gets questioned if the actress’ films don’t work? This double standard says a lot about the deeply rooted sexism in our society. As Khaled Hosseini once wrote, “Like a compass needle that points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman. Always”
There is no winning here. Blaming Athiya for Rahul’s performance is as silly as blaming your pen for failing a test.
Dear trolls, let’s be practical for a second. Why wouldn’t Athiya want her husband to do well in his career? In fact, she has been his number-one cheerleader since they started dating. I am proud of how the actress has never given two hoots about the trolls.
