Khloe Kardashian’s Experience With A Face Tumor Is A Reminder That It Could Happen To Anyone

Khloé Kardashian is popularly identified as the fierce, no-nonsense sister amongst the Kardashian-Jenner clan — the socialite is known to speak her mind, and is extremely candid about her feelings as seen on all of KUWTK’s and The Kardashians seasons. Khloé has recently been seen wearing a bandage on the face in recent appearances and photoshoots — which she clarified was a result of a ‘tumor’, formerly believed to be a zit, she had removed a couple of months ago. Here’s what happened, and how she dealt with the situation in the nick of time.

Khloé Kardashian’s Zit Was Actually A Tumor, & It Can Happen To Anyone

Is It Really A Zit?

Khloé recently posted a series of stories on Instagram explaining why she has been wearing an ‘ever-evolving bandage’ on part of her face for weeks now. The socialite discovered a spot on the cheek that she believed was a zit; but when the mark didn’t settle for over 7 months, she decided to consult a professional. She didn’t have any face-tumor symptoms per se; just a mark that wouldn’t budge.

More Like A Tumor

A skin biopsy was conducted — which declared the abnormality a tumor and classified it as ‘unusual’ for someone her age. Her doctors deemed it non-negotiable to extract the bump from the face via surgery. That explains why Kardashian has been wearing a bandage post-surgery these past couple of months — and she’s made it a part of her look effortlessly.

Pre-disposed To Melanoma

She also revealed that she had melanoma on the back at the age of 19, and is pre-disposed to the condition. Melanoma is one of the most invasive types of skin cancer, and it comes from pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. Melanocytes produce melanin — the substance that’s responsible for the colour of our skin. It can develop within a mole, or appear suddenly on the skin as a spot. It’s extremely high-risk, and as per reports, inhabitants of Northern India are more likely to develop melanoma. Khloe mentions wearing sunscreen every day and encourages everyone to opt for annual check-ups and self-exams frequently.

Does Skin Cancer Look Just Like A Lesion?

I spoke to Manjot Marwah, Award-Winning Celebrity Dermatologist, Hair Transplant Surgeon, and Consultant & Director at Dr. Manjot’s Clinic, about skin cancer in general, and how to spot it. A simple way to differentiate between cancer and lesions/marks, she says, is to look out for warning signs of skin Cancer. The A-B-C-D-Es of skin cancer:

  • Asymmetrical: Does the mole or spot have an irregular shape with two parts that look very different?
  • Border: Is the border irregular or jagged?
  • Colour: Is the colour uneven?
  • Diameter: Is the mole or spot larger than the size of a pea?
  • Evolving: Has the mole or spot changed during the past few weeks or months?

Do consult a professional as soon as you notice an abnormality on the skin, and wear sunscreen every day. While Kardashian’s tumor wasn’t cancerous, some are, and the sooner you catch it, the more effective the treatment.
