Supermodel Kendall Jenner has her own signature style and her hair is one of the biggest defining features of her look. It’s always super straight and centre parted with that striking jet-black colour. And she rarely ever experiments with it except for that one time when she became a redhead for a hot minute.
But IRL, Kendall has really good hair that is smooth and silky. The only thing is that it is so naturally straight that she rarely ever gets to enjoy natural volume or texture. Until she realised this nifty hack that every lazy girl will love, but experts caution against.
What Is Kendall Jenner’s Thin Hair Hack?
In an interview, Kendall revealed her lazy-girl hack for thin hair which is actually kind of risky. She said, “My hair is so stick-straight and silky, so when I sleep with it wet and wake up in the morning, it has this nice texture to it. That’s my version of doing my hair.”
Sleeping with your hair wet is Kendall’s tip but it could damage your hair too. But let’s be honest we all have at some point in our lives fallen asleep with our hair wet, so I don’t know whether it is fair or not to judge Kendall for doing this. That being said, you can try out her hack while keeping damage to a minimum too.
How Does Kendall Jenner’s Hair Hack Work?
Generally, when you sleep with wet hair, you will wake up with a serious case of bedhead. Now this isn’t great for someone like me who has naturally frizzy hair but for someone like Kendall Jenner who has naturally poker-straight hair, the bedhead volume and texture is a total treat. This texture and volume are caused due to friction from tossing and turning in bed while the hair dries.
The downside of this hack is that the friction that helps create that voluminous texture can also cause breakage, especially on wet hair. The hair is at its weakest state when it is wet and therefore can easily break with friction. So, if you really want to try out Kendall’s hack for effortless volume, you must do so with caution.
How To Try Kendall Jenner’s Hair Hack Safely?
If you are tempted to try Kendall’s method of adding volume to thin hair, pre-oil your hair before washing it. Even if it is just for half an hour, the oil will protect your hair from getting too dry in the shower and you will notice that your lengths feel naturally stronger and thicker.
My go-to hair oil for a quick champi sesh before a hair wash is the St. Botanica Moroccan Argan Hair Oil.
Once you step out of the shower, immediately work in a serum or leave-in conditioner cream on your hair lengths. Work it in section by section so that you know that your entire mane is protected. This step will ensure your hair is less prone to breakage and the process will also help your hair air dry. My go-to leave-in product for the monsoon is the L’Oreal Paris Hyaluron Moisture 72H Hydra Filling Night Cream Hair Cream.
After applying your leave-in products, you will notice your hair is damp and not wet, and that is a good thing. You will still get the same results as Kendall but with reduced damage. Just make sure to sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. Such pillowcases help reduce friction and therefore reduce hair breakage and even frizz too. The Fix My Curls Pillow Talk Pillowcases are a safe bet.
Follow these simple tips and you too can enjoy the effortless volume and texture like Kendall Jenner sans the hair damage.
