The first thing that springs to mind when we think about Karan Johar is glitz and pizazz! The director is a sucker for drama, which is evident not only in his films but also in his wardrobe. He is frequently spotted wearing blingy blazers and jackets, and if not, some extra shiny shoes! In fact, the theme for his 50th birthday party was also disco, so everyone had to arrive dressed in their blingiest attire. It’s almost impossible to picture KJo without glitter, but that era may be coming to an end.
On July 19, KJo posted a series of images of himself dressed in a simple black suit designed by Kanika Goyal. He wore a crisp white shirt underneath and completed the ensemble with a striped tie. This outfit is not something KJo would usually wear as it is too “seedha sada” for him. However, he justified his decision in the caption, and it appears that the director has ultimately opted to sacrifice the bling because of his mother.
He wrote, “Ma kehti hai, ‘Umar ho gayi hai… dhang ke kapde pehno.’ Mom aapke liye yeh seedha sada suit… par dil phir bhi kehta hai.. yeh bright rang kab mujhe chodega.” (My mom says that I’ve become old and need to wear appropriate clothes. Wearing this simple suit for my mom. However, my heart wonders if I’ll be able to part ways with vibrant colours).
We hope Karan Johar continues to follow his heart ‘coz while he looks equally great in a solid-coloured suit, there’s just something wildly eccentric and fun about KJo in OTT outfits. After all, bling and bright colours are very much a part of his personality!

While the theme of KJo’s 50th birthday bash was everything glitter, Karan made sure he shined the brightest among the crowd! Dressed in a stunning green shimmer tuxedo by Dolce & Gabbana, Karan made sure that the limelight solely belonged to him. Along with being in charge of bringing the bling, Johar’s stylist Eka Lakhani added a cool pair of Gucci shades and a Tom Ford bow tie to complete the look.
