What’s up? Jupiter, that’s what! In this month’s edition of What’s Up: June 2019 Skywatching Tips from NASA, it was noted that Jupiter is at its biggest and brightest this month, rising at dusk and remaining visible all night.
We all know that Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. But today, we have an opportunity to go beyond this knowledge and witness Jupiter in its true big glory for real with our naked eye! On June 10, 2019, i.e. tonight, Jupiter will reach the point of opposition, which means Earth will be between Jupiter and the Sun in a straight line.

Speaking about the forthcoming night sky, NASA says, “The solar system’s largest planet is a brilliant jewel to the naked eye, but looks fantastic through binoculars or a small telescope, which will allow you to spot the four largest moons, and maybe even glimpse a hint of the banded clouds that encircle the planet.“

The fifth planet from the Sun, Jupiter is so big that over 1,300 Earths could fit inside it. It has 79 known moons, and you can see some of them with just a pair of binoculars! Tonight sounds like just the right opportunity to look up.

However, if you wish to have a closer look at the planet tonight, Juno, NASA’s spacecraft orbiting Jupiter, will give you gorgeous views, making the planet feel almost close enough to touch.
