This New K-Beauty Skincare Fad Has Smashed The Internet: Say Hello To Jello Skin

Whether you’re a beauty aficionado or a newbie, all we want in the end is perfectly healthy and spotless skin – in other words, “Glass Skin.” This Korean-inspired beauty trend is about double cleansing, exfoliation, essence and so much more. To elaborate, achieving that translucent, luminous glow requires a 10-step skincare routine (very often a 12-step routine, too).

Just when we thought we’d gotten accustomed to the Glass Skin trend, a giant new K-Beauty trend breaks the internet. And do you know what it’s called? *drum rolls* Here’s rolling out the red carpet for the new K-beauty fad, “Jello Skin.” This skincare trend is not just about glowing skin but also about bouncy, plump appearance. TBH, while having terrific genes or a 10-step skincare routine may help – it is only possible to achieve the flawless Jello Skin with significant lifestyle modifications. Ahead, check out our list of incredibly effective steps to jumpstart your “Jello Skin” journey.

What Exactly Is Jell-O Skin?

Instagram

To be more precise, jello skin is defined as skin that is so elastic that it bounces back when touched, just like a Jell-O – the dessert. This new skincare trend not only encourages external beauty but also promotes internal wellness.

In 2021, the skincare influencer Ava Lee coined the term “Jello Skin” upon meeting renowned facialist Lord Gavin McLeod Valentine, whose clients include Kate Moss, Kim K and Rosalia. Ava’s YouTube video is an undeniable proof of McLeod-Valentine’s admiration for her skin. He claims her skin contains enough collagen to bounce back like a ‘JELLO’ when pinched.

So she started creating a whole new series of how to attain that jelly-like skin on TikTok. Although we don’t have access to the videos on TikTok, we can still watch them on Instagram (what a relief!).

How To Pave Your Path To Jello Skin?

One of the most important considerations is to stay hydrated by drinking enough water and using hyaluronic acid – a humectant that works by pulling and preserving moisture in your skin. Also, it aids in the regulation of sebum production for individuals with oily skin.

She goes on to explain that taking good care of your skin barrier, which protects your skin from moisture loss and environmental stressors, is also essential for getting jello-like skin. Lipid molecules found in the skin barrier that aims to prevent moisture loss are ceramides that work hard to build the skin barrier. A good SPF is another vital – and, in fact, the greatest – approach to protecting your skin and keeping the barrier undamaged.

Internal Nourishment Is A Must

Lee informs POPSUGAR on the jello skin treatment, telling them, “It is a lifestyle that focuses on both external and internal feeding that allows you to have plump, elastic skin, and this cannot be achieved alone by the use of a skin-care product. If anything, there is a greater emphasis on your nutrition, facial massage, and overall lifestyle rather than skin-care products.”

How Much Collagen Is Present In Your Skin?

Even though most of us associate jello with a tasty, wiggly dessert; it is an abbreviation for jello skin. Why use the word “jello”?  Lee was inspired after receiving a facial from Lord Gavin McLeod-Valentine, a celebrity aesthetician who has worked with Kate Moss, Kim Kardashian, and others. POPSUGAR quotes Lee as saying, “He was astonished by the amount of collagen in my skin and how bouncy it felt. Although the term was born after this facial, the process of achieving this type of skin took a long time.”

“Jell-O Skin Elixir” To Your Rescue

If you want to achieve “jello skin,” Lee recommends starting with a healthy diet rich in collagen and coloured fibre. Apples, red jujube dates, goji berries, fungus mushrooms, and a herbal brown sugar cube are included in her “jello skin elixir.” She recommends drinking it every day.

Do Not Forget To Massage Your Facial Muscles

Massages and facial exercises, which can be done using hands, are also important—and you’re in luck because Lee demonstrates how to do one such routine on Instagram.  If you want to step up your skincare routine, Lee recommends using a gua sha tool.
