With Rocky and Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Karan Johar gave Bollywood buffs everything they have been craving for–OTT drama and a heart-melting prem kahani. The icing on the cake was the cast’s exceptional acting that brought the characters to life, especially Jaya Bachchan. The veteran actor played Dhanlakshmi Randhawa so well that we couldn’t help but wonder if she actually played her real self in the movie. ‘Coz Jaya is known for her strong personality and unfiltered opinions.
And more often than not, she’s seen scolding paps for their behaviour. But contrary to what people may think, she’s actually a softy at heart and we have something to prove our point. Scroll down to know.
Recently, her co-star from RARKPK revealed some wholesome details about Jaya while they were shooting the film. Anjali Anand, who played Gayatri in the movie and Dhanlakshmi’s granddaughter, spoke to a leading portal and shared how Jaya was on the sets. She said, “Jaya ji, the opinion that people have of her is completely wrong because she is the sweetest and cutest person I have met. She is like a child. She would come in the morning and would be so enthusiastic. With people around, she is so loving and caring. When anyone says they are hungry on sets, she would literally open all her tiffin boxes and ensure everyone is well-fed. She is very caring.”
The actress further added, “Doing that scene in front of her, you might think that she must be standing in anger on the other side during the over-the-shoulder shot but she was crying, in fact! Because I was crying during the scene. She is a very warm and ‘mastikhor’ person.”
Wow, how wholesome is this?
Karan Johar On Why Jaya’s Character Gets No Redemption In RARKPK
In a recent interview, Karan opened up about why he chose Jaya to play Dhanlakshmi. He said, “Patriarchy can stem from a matriarch also. Patriarchy is a phenomenon. We attribute it mainly to men but there are times when its actually also come down through… like you show the graph of Dhanlakshmi, she became like that because that’s how it was meant to be and she trained her son to be that way so he imbibed that value and that loop would continue with Rocky. But he was compassionate because of his mother, that’s the subtext.”
He further added, “Casting Jaya ji was purely because I felt like the head of the family had to be a woman. It had to be a required arc. It needed a narrative, how she got there.”
Honestly, we can’t imagine anyone else playing Dhanlakshmi better than Jaya Bachchan!
