If you were to just go form an opinion about Janhvi Kapoor after just stalking her Instagram, we are sure you would be floored by her bold looks. In fact, Karan Johar recently complimented the actress on her fashion sense and even called her a ‘sex symbol’ on Koffee With Karan Season 7. However, as it turns out, the Roohi actress is quite sceptical of these compliments!
In a recent interview, Janhvi opened up on how worried she is about being called vulgar, especially when she gets papped outside the gym. During a media interaction, the actress shared, “For some reason, the gym is where people see me the most. Some days I want to look comfortable and not care if ‘this is going to look vulgar’ if the photo is taken at a certain angle. This irritates me. I don’t care if someone thinks it is pretty or hot, I care if someone thinks that I am looking vulgar. I don’t think that any girl steps out with the intention of looking vulgar.”
Janhvi added “Sometimes you get photographed in a certain way or people perceive you in a certain way and they character assassinate you, even though you make choices based on your comfort. That bothers me. It’s a small price to pay.”
NGL, we can totally relate to Janhvi here! At one point or another, we all have been worried about the lengths of our skirts, the necklines of our tops and the visibility of our bra straps, among million other things. It’s the 21st century, and yet, many people continue to judge a woman’s character by her clothes.
So, for once and all, let’s make it clear. A woman’s clothing preference is every bit personal and it has nothing to do with her character. Can we all stop putting women in boxes based on their sartorial picks and celebrate them for who they are?
While we understand Janhvi’s apprehensions, all we can say is—thodi si dekho teri bhi, thodi meri bhi, hone de badnaami. You do you girl!
