Won’t you agree when I say it was not Zara or H&M but Shein that changed the fashion game in India? Not only did Shein offer a plethora of trendy options but its affordable pricing gave it an edge over the rest of the clothing brands. But as they say, nothing good lasts forever! It was in 2020 when Shein had to leave due to a ban. Now it’s time to celebrate y’all as Shien is all set to make a comeback in India.
As per the latest reports, the Chinese fast-fashion brand is all set to enter the Indian market via Reliance Retail after three years. The Indian government has approved the partnership between Shien and Mukesh Ambani’s retail unit. Shein will soon start selling its fashion products through its online store and native app, once everything gets finalised. And not just in India, Reliance Retail will also help Shein operate in the US as well.
Why Was Shein Banned
In 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India banned Shein along with 50 other Chinese apps. This step was taken after a border dispute between India and China worsened. Further, the ban also happened due to rising concerns about India’s sovereignty, integrity, defence, and security. Even after the ban, Shein was available on Amazon but was soon removed after Delhi High Court issued a notice.
Will Shein’s comeback be bigger and better than before? Only time will tell.
