Imagine Anupama waking up one fine day and saying, “Ai-la mummy ji, just chill!” to her mother-in-law just like Monisha Sarabhai. That would be something, eh? Well, we give it to Rupali Ganguly for playing these two characters with such conviction that we can never forget either of them. Last year, the actress shared pictures with her Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai co-stars while having dinner and that made us hella nostalgic. But, it also made us wonder if something was cooking and the sitcom was coming back with the third season.
In an interview with a leading daily recently, Rupali had revealed that the star cast was too busy to think about the third instalment of the show. But, she defs wanted it to happened and said, “I am always hoping for a third season and I keep on manifesting it.” Well, she isn’t the only one. Recently, her on-screen MIL, Maya Sarabhai aka Ratna Pathak Shah, hinted that a new season of the series might happen very soon.
Ratna said that she and her co-stars would be happy to come together for another chapter of the show, but only with a good script. “We would all love there to be something in the making. It all depends on Aatish Kapadia (writer) because that shows nothing without him. So if he can put an interesting script together, then I think we all will be delighted to come back,” she said.
The second season of the show released on Disney+Hotstar in 2017 and received mixed responses from the audience. While some loved it, some felt that it missed the OG magic. The actress realised this as well and said, “But I guess the second season was a bit of a mixed experience for the audience, as well as for the actors. And if we do come back, we should come back stronger than that for sure.”
The first season of the franchise ended in 2006 and returned with the second season in 2017. That’s quite a long time and while speaking about it, Ratna said that it impacted the show’s review as well. According to the veteran actress, it was a challenge for the makers to come up with a script that had the OG charm and was refreshing at the same time.
She said, “You feel that you know the world has changed so much around you, maybe you should also change? Maybe the audience wants something familiar. So is there a way to give them that sense of familiarity, and yet to do something fresh? That’s always the challenge on OTT where filmmakers try to do series in various seasons. If you take a long break, coming back is often difficult.”
Ratna also added that she doesn’t want her fans to wait for years for the third season of the show. “So I hope this time around the break hasn’t been so long. So maybe We will be able to do something interesting. I really hope the third season happens,” she added.
Well, we hope so too and want to watch the Sarabhais again stat!
