Instagram’s Siren Eye Has A New Spin-Off, And It’s Called Sleepy Eyes

Instagram’s Siren Eye Has A New Spin-Off, And It’s Called Sleepy Eyes

While many on the Internet profess a liking for ‘Doe Eyes’ — a technique that accentuates the roundness of the gaze and plays into the illusion of bigger eyes — others attest to the appeal of ‘Siren Eyes’ — a trend that elongates the gaze with angled flicks. This months-old debate has been silenced; courtesy of a newly-descended hack that reigns supreme. Dubbed ‘Sleepy Eyes’, this one is just as sultry and seductive as Siren Eyes with a few crucial differences here and there. Here’s what it’s all about, and a guide on recreating the aesthetic in a few steps.

Sleepy Eyes That Actually Flatter You? We’re Intrigued

What Do Sleepy Eyes Look Like?

Many have likened this trend to ‘siren eyes’ — a technique that elongates and lifts the eyes softens the gaze, and plays into the sultriness of your look. The difference lies in the way you perfect your wing. While the former’s flicks are angled upward and outward, this technique involves extending the wing across the eye in a straight line. The end result is an eye that’s so excessively elongated that it makes you look sleepy. Since this trend is aesthetically edgier and darker, you can play around with darker shades of eyeshadow as well. If you’re looking for a trend that’s not as strategic and contrived in its approach and aims for a more natural-looking finish, this one is it for you.

You’ll Need These Before You Start

  • A gel-based or liquid-based eyeliner
  • A dark shade of eyeshadow
  • A tube of mascara or a set of falsies
  • A small brush

How To Achieve Sleepy Eyes

  • Tease the outer corners of your eyes with a dark (or black) shade of eyeshadow.
  • Sweep some pigment over the crease of the lid as well as the under-eye area too.
  • Draw a line from the outer corner of your eyes toward the outwards. using a liquid-based or gel-based eyeliner. Don’t angle it upward. Follow a straight line.
  • Connect this line to your upper and lower lash line to create a straight and slick flick on the lid.
  • Extend this line to most of your lower waterline.
  • Using some more of that eyeshadow, blend your lower lash-line to create a smudge, sultry under-eye.
  • Define your lashes with mascara — or a set of falsies to dramatise the look further.

And that’s all. This trend is extremely simple to create, and you can enlist it for your next night out.
