You’d be living under a rock if you didn’t know about Urvashi Rautela’s bizarre crocodile necklace that made heads turn at the Cannes Film Festival! While some people highly admired her zooty jewellery choices, it didn’t sit well with others. The trolling went to the extent that the Sanam Re actress had to make a video to shed some light on the significance of the neckpiece. However, there’s a new debate going on the ‘Gram claiming that Urvashi’s alligator necklace is a ‘sasti copy’ of the original piece by Cartier.
Deepthi Sasidharan, an entrepreneur and heritage consultant first called Urvashi out for not being enough informed about the one-of-its-kind Cartier piece. Sharing an informative video on her ‘Gram stories, she wrote, “It’s one of those jewellery milestones really but the faux pas here was simply that perhaps Ms Rautela never really realised why it’s special…or how historic!” What added fuel to the fire was when jewellery enthusiast and entrepreneur, Arundhati De-Sheth joined the debate and accused Urvashi’s statement necklace of being a copy of the historic Cartier piece. She wrote, “Going to Cannes in France, the home of Cartier. Then wearing a poor shoddy sad ugly copy of a historic piece. Allegedly representing our nation and pretending to be wearing the real thing. When it’s hastily been crafted in the back of beyond. Shameful @teamurvashirautela it seems you have not done any homework. We are a land of the most special treasures and jewels that she could have worn instead. This is so blatant and sad!” Here, have a look:
All About The Cartier Alligator Necklace!
Back in 1975, Mexican actress Maria Félix got a customised alligator necklace made by Cartier, owing to her love for her pet baby crocodile. It comprised two alligators, with one crafted in 18-karat yellow gold, meticulously set with more than 1,000 brilliant-cut fancy intense yellow diamonds weighing 60.02 carats. The second crocodile was sculpted in 18-karat white gold and was set with 1,060 emeralds totalling 66.86 carats. The crocodile eyes were adorned with rubies and emeralds. Maria wore the exquisite piece for years. Reportedly, it now retails at a whopping Rs 200 Crores. Apart from María Félix, Italian actress Monica Bellucci has also worn crocodile necklaces twice at Cannes. While the actress sported the original 1975 masterpiece at the 2006 Cannes, she opted for another version of the necklace at the 2019 Cannes.
While we still don’t know if Urvashi wore the real Maria Félix necklace or a dupe of it, gotta say that her look got people talking!
