#MyStory: Here’s What Happened When I Tried To Dye My Hair Pink At Home

I cannot remember the last time I just let my hair be. I’m either getting them coloured at the salon or cutting my own split-ends at home or whipping out a hair mask so that my hair doesn’t hate me (I am very close to shaving my head and I’m not kidding). Even during the lockdown, I cannot leave them alone and decided to dye them pink using a semi-permanent hair dye, and here’s how it all went down…

Did I Dye My Hair Or Did My Hair Die? – You Decide!

If you’ve ever tried a semi-permanent dye on your hair, you know that Manic Panic, Punky Colour, Crazy Colour, Unicorn Hair (Lime Crime), etc. are some of the top choices. I have tried the Punky Colour in shade purple (yes, it did work) so I decided to choose another brand this time – Crazy Color (Pinkissimo). Having read SO many amazing reviews about this brand and seeing people flaunt their Barbie-inspired pink hair I was ready to flip my super pink hair!

Just a few pointers to be kept in mind before trying out:

– Do NOT try this at home if you’re under 18.

– Make sure your hair is pre-lightened/ bleached as the colour won’t show up on brunette locks.

– Since this is a hair dye, people with allergies should test a patch on their hair before emptying the bottle on their heads.

– Keep a pair of gloves, a bowl to pour out the colour and a hair conditioner handy.

Here’s a before picture:

Step 1: Get The Dye

You can get this shade (or any other) online for Rs 750. Considering that it will give me pink hair within 15-30 minutes, I say this is a bargain.

I also did a patch test on my strands just to ensure it doesn’t aggravate my allergies and a 🤏 bit of colour did show.

Step 2: Colour Application

I tied my hair in a bun and applied a hair conditioner on my forehead, neck, ears, and the back of my neck and it helps prevent the colour from staining my skin.

Next. I applied the colour directly on my hair. And since we’re on lockdown and nobody’s gonna see me for the next few weeks, I simply used my bare hands to apply the dye.

I would strongly suggest you do not do that!

Step 3: Wait For The Colour To Show Up

As mentioned earlier, I did my homework. I read so many reviews and watched so many tutorials on how to use this on my hair. Although the label on the bottle read, “apply for 15-30 mins”, I kept it for over an hour as my hair is not bleached.

So, are you ready to see the result? My pink hair!

Umm. Well, this was embarrassing. Only some parts got the colour and it’s not even pink! Arghhh!

At least I’m not her…

This was a bad idea form the start to finish. I just wasted both my time and money.
