BB creams, blemish balms, beauty balms – whatever you wanna call them. The skincare-makeup hybrid first burst on the K-beauty scene what it feels like a million years ago, before becoming a staple in your BFF’s, your co-worker’s, and your mom’s beauty bag. And even with all the skincare advancements in recent years, few makeup products promise the same medium coverage, good-for-the-skin qualities, and sun protection that a single tube of BB cream can. Nothing against foundation, but if you’re not feeling up for full coverage or just prefer a quicker option, a BB cream is the way to go. If you want to nail a luminous glow on budget, keep swiping to know how to make your own BB cream at home.

Step 1: Sunscreen To Ward Off Sun Rays

Grab a plastic pot. Make sure it’s properly cleaned out. Then take your go-to sunscreen. It’s best to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with 50+ PA for maximum protection. Sunscreen is a must all year round – even when you’re indoors or when it’s cloudy – but more so in the summer when the sun is stronger. Although you can add sunscreen in your DIY BB cream, we suggest applying a layer beforehand because mixing sunscreen with something else could result in you applying much less than needed.

Step 2: Add A Go-To Foundation

Next, add two pumps of your favourite foundation. We recommend using a matte foundation that provides medium to full coverage. You can also go for a serum-infused foundation if you’re looking for more dewy, plump skin.

Step 3: To Ace The Base

Follow the above step with one full plump of primer. A primer is non-negotiable if you’re looking to create a silky-smooth canvas. Face primer literally acts as a bridge that spans the gap between skincare and makeup. From boosting the staying power of makeup to helping us ace the base, a face primer has infinite complexion-perfecting benefits to offer.

Step 4: For Luminous Glow

Next, squeeze one full pump of your moisturiser to add an extra dose of hydration. You can opt for a moisturiser with skin-loving ingredients such as vitamin C for that celeb-esque glow. Alternatively,  adding a pump of vitamin C serum along with your moisturiser will also do the trick.

Step 5: For A Sun-Kissed Complexion

Then, add a few drops of liquid highlighter. But if you’re not a fan of liquid highlighter and if it makes your skin too shiny, using an illuminating complexion cream will work equally well.

Step 6: Whisk It

Once all of the products are combined, take a little spatula and whisk them together for a good minute or so. Pro tip: It’s best to choose products with similar consistency. Otherwise, they might not blend well, or worse, ball up on the skin.

If you’re not into DIYs, we recommend opting for this argan oil-infused BB foundation stick. The long-lasting formula is filled with good-for-the-skin ingredients which will not only provide medium coverage but also nourishes the skin while minimizing the appearance of pores and wrinkles.

Go, get to work ladies!
