How To Do Pregnancy-Safe Face Clean-up At Home

How To Do Pregnancy-Safe Face Clean-up At Home

On any given day, we typically stick to the cleanse-rinse-moisturise routine when it comes to skincare. While there is nothing wrong with these steps, our skin often requires more TLC than this. This is where regular face clean-ups help. You don’t necessarily have to visit the salon every week for a face clean-up. You can easily do it at home by adding just a few extra steps to your existing beauty routine. Moreover, indulging in regular face clean-ups can deeply cleanse your face and bring out a glow from within.

What Is A Face Clean-up

A face clean-up helps remove dirt and grime from the skin and brings out the inner radiance of your skin

A face clean-up involves steps like cleansing, exfoliating, and steaming, followed by toning and moisturising. This beauty routine helps remove dead skin cells, traces of dirt, excess oil, and pollutants. While face clean-up is essential for maintaining proper skin health, it’s a tad bit different from salon and spa-type facials. You do not need any special products or tools to carry out a face clean-up at home. You can do it with your regular products like cleanser, exfoliator, and toner.

Also, it is not necessary to follow all the steps for a face clean-up regularly. You may skip a step or two when needed. Just make sure to be consistent with this routine to keep your skin thoroughly cleansed, healthy, and glowing.

6 Simple Steps To A Face Clean-up At Home

A face clean-up involves simple steps like cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, toning, and moisturising

Step 1: Double cleanse your face

This process requires two steps. First, remove your makeup with cleansing oil or an oil-based cream or balm that dissolves makeup, dirt, and any dust stuck on the skin pores; and then cleanse your face with a face wash. Follow this up with these steps:

  • Rub a cleansing oil over your face.
  • Wipe your face with a wet cotton pad to take out all the makeup and dirt. You may also use an emollient-based face wipe for this step.
  • Take a pea-sized amount of a natural purifying face wash such as clay-infused face wash to deep cleanse your face and remove any traces of impurities.
  • Rinse your face with water and pat it dry.

Step 2: Exfoliate your skin

The next step is to exfoliate your skin to get rid of all the dead skin cells. You do not have to repeat this step every day. Limit it to just once or twice a week. Over-exfoliation can cause adverse reaction and breakouts. You should always exfoliate with a natural and plant-based face scrub. Look for a scrub infused with ingredients like coffee and cranberry as they give potent results by gently exfoliating your skin and making it soft and nourished.

  • Wet your face with water.
  • Take a dime-sized amount of face scrub.
  • Apply it all over your face.
  • Gently massage in a circular motion. Do this for 2-3 minutes and then wash your face.

Step 3: Steam your face

Steaming the face after exfoliation can help open up the pores and soften the skin. It also makes it easier for the skin to absorb the following skincare products. To do this:

  • Fill your basin with warm water.
  • Add a few drops of essential oil (optional step) like lemongrass, peppermint, or sandalwood.
  • Cover your head with a towel and hold your head over the steam for 10 minutes.

You do not have to repeat this step every day. Once a week is more than enough.

Step 4: Apply a face pack

Using a face pack after steaming can remove residual impurities and also target specific skin concerns like blackheads and whiteheads or acne. Use a natural clay face mask to purify, detoxify, and brighten your skin.

  • Take a generous amount of the face mask and apply it all over your face.
  • Wait for 10-15 minutes until the mask completely dries up.
  • Rinse with water and then pat dry with a soft towel.

Step 5: Add face tone to your face

Toning will help balance the pH levels of your skin and close the pores. Use a mild and natural toner infused with ingredients like Vitamin C, niacinamide, green tea, and aloe vera to tighten pores, and soothe and hydrate the skin.

  • Spritz the toner on a cotton pad and wipe it over your face.
  • Let it dry and do not wash your face afterward.

Step 6: Moisturise your face

Moisturising is the final and the most relaxing step in the face clean-up process. It helps nourish and hydrate your skin and keeps it glowing. Use a natural Vitamin rich face cream every day to replenish the skin and get rid of concerns like dark spots and pigmentation. For this step:

  • Take a generous amount of the cream in your palm.
  • Dot it all over your face and massage it in a circular motion.
