Leave-In, Serum, Mousse -What To Use When
1. Leave-In Conditioners
Who Should Use It: If frizz, fly-aways and thick unmanageable locks are a major concern for you, then a leave-in conditioner will be your best friend. It will control frizz (especially in humid climates), help to prevent split ends and make your hair look healthy. Just use a dime-sized amount and make sure to evenly distribute it amongst your mid-lengths and ends when your hair is wet. It can also act as a detangler and help to make blowdrying and styling easier.
POPxo Recommends: Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In Cream (Rs 1,362)
2. Mousse For Bounce
Who Should Use It: Women who are dealing with limp hair or want to add volume. You can also use mousse if you have short hair or curly hair. Mousse creates lots of texture and plenty of bounce. However, it won’t do much for women with long, straight hair. Work it into your roots for a lift and some mega volume, or into your curls to make them look more defined and super bouncy.
POPxo Recommends: Schwarzkopf All Weather Ultra Mousse (Rs 430)
3. Texturizing Sprays And Serums
Who Should Use It: Girls with fine hair or with naturally wavy locks to build volume as well as give that beachy effect. Texturizing products, particularly sea salt sprays, are great for gorgeous waves and to bring some texture to boring hair. Use it on damp locks and scrunch and twirl your strands or spritz onto dry, styled locks for that sexy, undone effect. Just make sure to apply it far from your roots in order to prevent them from getting greasy.
POPxo Recommends: Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturizing Spray (Rs 840)
4. Shine Sprays And Serums
Who Should Use It: If you have medium to thick strands that are lacking luster, give this a try. They’re also great for adding a healthy sheen to colour treated and dry locks. Apply a pea-sized amount into your palm, rub it between your hands and then clamp onto your strands from the mid lengths and smoothen the ends. Even if you’re using a spray, it’s better to spritz it into your hands first rather than spraying directly onto your locks. This way it won’t feel as heavy and weigh them down. You can apply it to damp hair as well as to dry locks when you want to give them a glossy boost. It’s great for a finishing touch after blow drying or styling your mane.
POPxo Recommends: The Body Shop Grapeseed Glossing Serum (Rs 995)
5. Volumizing Sprays
Who Should Use It: Girls who are styling their hair and want oodles of volume and lift. These should only be used when you’re styling your mane. Spritz it onto your roots and blowdry by lifting your hair up at the roots with your brush. Or just flip your head down and blow dry to build loads of volume. You can also tease your roots when they’re dry for some mega lift. POPxo Recommends: Garnier Big Volume Heat Protect Hair Styler (Rs 690)
6. Hairsprays To Keep It All In Place
Who Should Use It: Anyone can use it when you’re styling your hair and want to keep every strand in place. It’s also great for the times when you want to rock big, sexy hair. Spritz it onto dry hair after you’ve finished styling to prevent it from going flat, to keep flyaways in place and to prolong your style. Just make sure to hold that can far, at least 12 inches away from your hair, when you spray it. This will avoid build-up in one particular area and will help it to settle evenly across your strands. Oh and it’s easy to get carried away with it, so avoid spraying way too much or else you won’t be able to run a brush through those crunchy locks.
POPxo Recommends: L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hair Spray (Rs 899)
7. Straightening/ Smoothening Balms And Serums
Who Should Use It: Straight-haired girls and girls with curly or wavy locks who blow dry their hair straight. Use a dime-sized amount (or more if your hair is thick) and apply it at least an inch away from your roots down to the ends. Use when your locks are wet or when dry (after a blow dry) to seal the cuticles and add shine. Make sure to apply more at the ends and less at the roots to prevent your mane from looking flat.
POPxo Recommends: Matrix Biolage 6 in 1 Smooth Proof Deep Smoothing Serum (Rs 248)
8. Dry Shampoos
Who Should Use It: Anyone and everyone! We all have those days when we just don’t have the time or energy to wash and style our locks. Dry shampoo is great for temporarily absorbing excess oil at the roots and freshening up our locks when we can’t wash our hair. Spray it in the roots and work it in by massaging with your fingers or brushing out your hair to help it to get absorbed and to get rid of that build-up of white powder. It’s amazing for postponing a wash by a day or two. But be sure to not make it a habit and wash your hair a few times a week to keep your hair and scalp clean.
POPxo Recommends: Batiste Dry Shampoo Instant Hair Refresh (Rs 645)
Now you can use the right product depending on your hair type and how you wish to style your mane. Have a happy hair day every day! 🙂
