There Was A Lot Of Pressure! Hina Khan On Why She Was Determined To Kill It At Cannes

Hina Khan was one of the most stylish desi divas at the Cannes Film Festival this year. She served one stellar look after the other, made head turns, and did the country proud. But still, the actress had to face her share of discrimination (yet again!). Hina opened up about it during a Cannes interview where she shared how she wasn’t invited to the Indian pavilion’s opening ceremony despite being present in the French Riviera town.

The actress has now talked about how all the prejudices motivated her to slay it at the film festival. She knew that a lot of Indian celebs will be walking the red carpet and Hina ensured that her looks stood out. She shared the same in a recent interview with a popular daily and said “I was nervous as my previous red carpet looks were amazing, beautiful and loved by all. Knowing that there were so many celebs there this time added to the pressure. I wanted to look different from the last time and choose a dramatic look.”

She further added, “But I also knew that it is about your own charm and wahan jaake aag lagni hai was my thought. I walked once and I was too tired with just one (laughs). Thankfully, it was well-received. Those five minutes on the carpet are magical.” Hina also talked about how the media in Cannes doesn’t judge anyone based on if they come from films or TV, unlike the Indian film fraternity. “If they find you worthy enough to be caught in their cameras, they will capture your look.”

Well, Hina’s efforts paid off and she managed to receive a lot of love at the film festival. Many celebs and fans also came in the actress’s support after she talked about her ordeal. Speaking about the same, she shared, “I got so much love and support from people on social media, even from the media and celebs. People stood up for me, thought the idea was not that I want anyone to stand up for me. It wasn’t planned. I was asked a question and I spoke up. As an actor, I have been vocal about things and I always will be. I wasn’t there for a TV show but a film poster launch, so I didn’t understand why this happened.”

This has strengthened Hina’s resolve to call out such instances of elitism from the film industry because she is positive that this is the only way she can bring a change. The actress is hopeful that things will be better next time because the Indian pavilion did send her an event invite after her statement. Here’s hoping that Hina gets the same treatment as any other Bollywood actress next year in Cannes.
