Think of the Indian fashion industry and more often than not it is Manish Malhotra‘s name that pops in your head. After all, it has been almost three decades since we have been watching actresses donning gorgeous Manish Malhotra outfits on the silver screen. Right from Anushka Sharma’s elaborate champagne gold bridal ensemble in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil to Bebo’s glam sharara from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, it is Malhotra’s craftsmanship that has made these outfits truly iconic.
Then again, he remains as big a name when it comes to avant-garde Indian bridal couture. Be it Bebo’s wine lehenga from her reception or the enviable array of attires from Armaan Jain’s recent wedding, Indian celeb weddings remain mostly incomplete sans a touch of Manish Malhotra label. And while he might have launched his eponymous label only in 2005, almost a decade after his designing debut in cinema, there have been a few illustrious brides who got to wear one of his designer marvels at their own weddings, Bhavana Pandey, Chunky Panday’s wife being the first one of the lot.
Bhavana recently took to Instagram to share a throwback picture from her wedding with Chunky Panday from 22 years ago and we can’t get over how just gorgeous she looks in her powder blue Manish Malhotra attire. We love the fine details of her Indo-western outfit and how she chose to go for a hue way different from the regular palette of reds, pinks, and gold. Bet she must have made for quite an enviable bride in the layered outfit and that million-dollar smile!
She captioned the post, “Throwback to our wedding reception 22 years back !!! Love my stunning @manishmalhotra05 outfit !♥️♥️ It’s still intact and as gorgeous except it doesn’t fit me anymore 🙈😅!!!” Here, take a look:
Commenting on why Bhavana and her wedding outfit would always remain close to his heart, Malhotra shared on his Instagram, “First Real Bride I dressed and the unconventional Soft powder Blue is the colour I choose as always wanted to be different and in those days I had not launched my label and I used to only design and style for the movies.”
Back then Malhotra was still making his way into the mainstream fashion and it was Chunky among a few other clients who supported him through the journey. He also commented on how it has been a full circle with the Panday family as he has come a long way from designing his first-ever bridal ensemble for Bhavana to creating outfits for Ananya’s first movie as well. “First and Special to me always @bhavanapandey .. Beautiful and Charming Bride .. ♥️ and a long journey to styling and designing @ananyapanday for @sotyoffical,” he wrote.
Now that’s some story, right?
