1. Feroz Shah Kotla Fort

Situated right next to a cricket stadium that goes by the same name, this fort becomes a popular hangout spot for youngsters during the daytime. But a strange fear continues to reside in the minds of the locals. During the reign of the Tughlaq Dynasty, it appeared to be one of the most occupied places for controversial discussions and plotting of secretive invasions in the country. Since then, this place has been known to be the home of Djins (invisible spirits that possess humans). And locals try to please these djins by making offerings with milk and grains every Thursday. What happens if they don’t? The djins follow them and other visitors into their homes and make their lives – a living hell!

The name, Khooni Darwaza, which literally means ‘Bloody Door’ is true to its spine-chilling death history. It was at this exact same spot where Bahadur Shah Zafar’s sons – Mirza Mughal and Mirza Khizr Sultan and his grandson Mirza Abu Bakht were killed by a British soldier, Captain William Hudson. He shot them dead after stripping them naked in front of everybody to create an illusion of fear in the minds of anyone who dared go against them. So, those who stay in the neighbouring areas continue to feel the troubled spirits move around them and their anguished cries and painful screams at night.

Built during the 14th Century by Maharaja Agrasen, it’s one of the most beautiful architectural beauties of the city and a popular tourist spot – but only during the daytime. The now empty baoli (reservoir) was believed to be once, filled with black-coloured water containing hypnotic qualities or unearthly forces which enticed people to commit suicide by diving in and drowning themselves. So, as you descend further down the 104 level step-wall, beware! You may feel followed, watched or even nudged to go closer and closer towards the end. Its a place where all nature lovers head in the mornings for a walk or sight-seeing during cosy, winter afternoons. Since then, she roams around the forest in search of a human to possess and the desire for a better life. Hence, there have been visitors claiming to hear children laughing in the middle of the night, not just inside the forest but even on the roadside – as she uses them as bait to lure people inside the forest.
