We’re pretty sure you’ve heard about the Hardik Pandya controversy when he and KL Rahul made their debut on Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee With Karan. If not, let us refresh your memory a bit. KJo had asked him why he doesn’t ask women their names when at a club and what he talks to them about. To this, Hardik had replied, “I like to watch and observe how they (women) move. I’m little from the black side so I need to see how they move.”
He also revealed how his family asked him what his ‘scene’ was with a girl he had hooked up with. He said that being the ‘adarsh son’ that he is, he apparently pointed at all his conquests at the party, and said: “this one, that one, that one over there, this one too.” He further added that his family was proud of him for the same.
And when asked who gets the girl if both Hardik and Rahul like her, Rahul had said that it was the woman who decided. But Hardik cut in crassly saying that there were no such rules. Whoever could manage to get the girl before the other, won.
While talking about the entire row now, Hardik recently said, “We as cricketers did not know what was going to happen. The ball was not in my court, it was in someone else’s court where they had to take the shot and that’s a very vulnerable place, you don’t want to be (in it).”
This episode brought the two cricketers under a lot of controversies. They were slammed for being ‘sexist’ and ‘misogynist’ and even missed out on a few matches for Team India due to suspension. They even got fined Rs 20 lakh each by the BCCI for their remarks. Later, Hotstar even pulled down the episode because it had created a frenzy in the country.
To be honest, I don’t really understand what Hardik means when he says that the ball wasn’t in his court. He did say all those things and they were deeply sexist. We live in a country where cricket is treated as a religion and cricketers are worshipped as Gods, so it becomes even more important to set a good precedent for the masses. We do hope he’s learned his lesson and understood why his statements were gravely dangerous.
