When In Doubt, Pout It Out: 5 Golden Rules To Keep In Mind When You’re Using A Lip Stain

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t see the point in applying lipstick when I have a face mask on. Whenever I do wear lipstick, regardless of its finish, it ends up staining my mask. Due to this, I have more or less switched to lip stains. What I love about lip stains is that they’re easy to work with and don’t budge. Most lip stains in the market are on the pricer side because of their runny, lightweight formulas. They add a natural tint to the lips and don’t stain face masks. However, they can backfire if you don’t know how to use them properly.

Keep These 5 Golden Rules In Mind When Using A Lip Stain

I hope you’re taking notes!

Always Prep Your Lips

Unlike lipsticks, lip balms, and lip glosses, a lip stain can dry your lips out. Its primary job is to add colour and not to moisturise your lips. If your pout is not prepped and is chapped, and dry, it’s going to draw more attention to the cracks on the lips. Hence, always exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub first, apply lip balm and then follow it up with a lip tint.

Less Is More

Due to their runny, liquidy texture, applying too much lip stain product can stain your teeth and the area around your mouth. Avoid applying lip stain like lipstick by sweeping product across your lips. On the contrary, dot the product on your lips. Then, use your finger to blend the colour into your pout.

Don’t Stop Moisturising

You may have applied lip balm before applying lip stain, but as the day proceeds, the lip balm will eventually dry out. Whenever your lips look parched, apply lip balm over your lip stain.

Let’s say you applied too much lip stain on your lips- what do you do with the excess product? (No, you can’t put it back into the tube) Pick the product up with your finger and apply it to your cheeks as a blush. For a monotone look, apply it to your lids too.

Ask Yourself – What’s The Occasion?

If you’re someone who likes wearing minimal to barely-there makeup, a lip stain product is perfect for you. It’s fuss-free and amplifies the natural tint of your pout! The best times to wear it is to the gym, the beach, the first date, and to the office.
