What time is it? It’s Galentine’s week! Not a typo – well, duh, it’s Valentine’s week too. But what’s EVEN better is that it’s almost Galentine’s day. What is this day, you ask? “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it… Ladies celebrating ladies.”, described by Leslie Knope, Parks & Recreation S2 Ep.16 (Park ranger and Inventor of Galentine’s Day as we know it).
So take a break from your better half and spend it with your lovelies! The women in your life deserve your attention and (at least) one whole day of pampering. Plus, champagne. Am I right, or am I right? We all know our girls are a survival kit to the catastrophe, that is life, on most days. Our personal cheerleaders, matchmakers, critics and sisters, what would we do without them? Your boyfriend might not get your silent signals (whether you’re PMSing and need ice-cream, or you’re dying to rant about a rude colleague) but your best girlfriends? They’ll fly to you if they could. They get you.
So, take a cue from pro-planner Ms Leslie Knope and start hashing out the POA for the big day (13th Feb, Tuesday). Can’t think of how to celebrate your sisterhood? I’m here for you, babe. My Galentine’s present to you – recommendations on ways to celebrate and looks for each one of them:
1.Glamping
It’s like camping, but not really. Hop to your nearest forest glamping site (or a friend’s backyard) if all you’d like to do this Galentine’s is to pitch a tent in the middle of nowhere with your closest gal pals. But have it pitched for you instead and still want wine, phone connectivity, gourmet food and port-a-potties. Make sure you pack an outfit that’s relaxed but instagrammable – a linen shirt, culottes, a printed scarf and some comfy flats.
POPxo recommends: All-Over Print Flared Tunic (Rs. 1299) & Mid-Rise Culottes with Tie-Up (Rs. 799) by Ajio; Colourblock Slip-On Casual Shoes (Rs. 1439) by Qupid
2. Big Girl Sleepover
Remember middle school sleepovers? Painting each other’s nails, trying on makeup and giggling over cute prepubescent boys. Well, what I’m going to suggest is just a ‘big girl’ version of some of the best nights of our pre-teen lives… Think pitchers of margaritas blended in the kitchen, loud 90s music and a lot of boy trashing. Even though a lot has changed, a sleepover without cute PJs is almost pointless. So get yourself some, quirky eye masks (even though, who’s sleeping?) and of course a pair of super fuzzy slippers. Is it weird that I’m excited about this outfit already?
POPxo recommends: Fruit Print Satin Long Pajama Set (Rs.1472) and Contrast Pom Faux Fur Slippers (Rs. 832) by Shein, Eye Mask – Cat – Purple (Rs. 450) by Shop Island
3. Pig Out
Girlfriends who break diets together, stay together. If there ain’t no love bigger than your joint love for big juicy burgers (or pizza, or sushi for the matter), this one’s a perfect Galentine’s Day plan for you. And even though you’re going to be scarfing down some amaaaaze food, you need to be dressed to the nines. For me, this one calls for a thug life look: a sassy cropped hoodie, comfy joggers, funky sneakers and a cute crossbody bag.
POPxo recommends: Drop Shoulder Slogan Print Crop Hoodie (Rs. 575), Striped Tape Side Drawstring Sweatpants (Rs. 1023), Color Block Lace Up Sneakers (Rs. 1055) and Velvet Crossbody Bag With Chain Handle (Rs. 460) by Romwe
4. Daytime Cocktail Party
How I wish every party I went to with my girlfriends was out of a Sex And The City episode. This particular one is my favourite – a mid-day, rooftop cocktail party! And whoever thought of ‘flirtinis’ is nothing short of genius. If you agree and would love nothing better than to sit around in flirty clothing with your sistahs on Galentine’s Day, start planning yours. Outfit tip: off-shoulder crop top, high waist midi skirt, a summery hat and some strappy flats. BRB, testing my first batch of ‘flirtinis’.
POPxo recommends: Stripe Right Skirt Set (Rs. 1557), Pom Pom Paradise Beige Hat (Rs. 828), True Colors Moana Ula Eartops (Rs. 4304), Supernova Gold Slide Sandal (Rs. 805) by Lulu & Sky
5. Girls Night Out
Stepping out in formation, ‘Yonce style, in ‘Goodness me!’ outfits that empower you and each other – that’s what a girl’s night out is truly about. Dance your hearts out, laugh till you cry and stick to a ‘no boys rule’ please. And to have a never-to-be-forgotten night with your Galentines, you’ve got to dress like it too. My pick: a sharp blazer dress, killer heels, statement earrings (preferably fringe-y and extra) and a statement clutch.
POPxo recommends: Pleated Waistcoat (Rs. 4990), Fringed Flower Earrings (Rs. 1190), Leather Sandals With Stone Detail (Rs. 5990), Mock Croc Messenger Bag (Rs. 1990) by Zara
6. We’re Going Shopping
Go out shopping with your girls, this Galentine’s Day. Trust me, there’s nothing better than to shower each other with well-deserved tokens of unconditional love. My bestie and I do it all the time, it’s one of our rituals. And the one thing we make sure we do, is to throw together an outfit that is shopping spree-worthy. What I’d wear: Crisp white shirt, knee length skirt, a pair of sporty trainers and a spacious tote.
POPxo recommends: Cold Shoulder Top (Rs. 1299) by Noble Faith, Gingham Paper Bag Waist Skirt (Rs. 495) by SBuys, Cat Eye Sunglasses (Rs. 999) by Style Fiesta, Love Elastic Vintage Trainers (Rs.1699) by Koovs, Heart Studded Tote Bag (Rs.1299) by Paris Belle.
