If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan like me, you must’ve been on top of the moon when the show announced its revival back in 2016. And fans absolutely loved seeing what Rory and Lorelai were up to after all those years in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. However, the four-episode revival *just* wasn’t enough, and fans have been begging for another revival.
It’s been four years since the reboot and fans still don’t know where the show stands. While nothing has been announced about another revival season, the producers also haven’t announced a cancellation. This has left the fans hanging for all these years…until now.
Well, kind of.

Let us break down the bigger picture for you. Right after Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was released, the producers of the show, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, shifted their focus to The Marvellous Mrs Maisel (which is another great show!). The show went on to be a massive hit and even won several prestigious awards, including the Emmys and the Golden Globes. Thanks to its success, the show’s continuously been renewed ever since, leading the producers too tied up to come back to Gilmore Girls.
However, all hope is not lost!
Warner Bros.
Amazon’s co-head of television, Vernon Sanders, made it clear in 2019 that the Palladinos are still free to work on more Gilmore Girls if they want to, even if it is not for Amazon. “We are talking to Amy and Dan about a lot of things. (Another Gilmore Girls revival) hasn’t come up. But I do think it speaks to our overall philosophy when it comes to talent, which is we think it benefits us when we have talent that’s creatively happy and have opportunities to do many things. If that show were to continue and it isn’t for us, we would obviously be happy to see it happen.”
That sounds like positive news, right? Well, that’s not all! Amy Sherman-Palladino herself confirmed in 2019 that she is still in touch with the Gilmore Girls cast and they often chat about what a second season of the revival could look like. Additionally, she also said she’s still open to making more Gilmore Girls, but needs the story and timing to be just right first.

“It’s not anything other than we need the right story, the right format, and the right timing. It’s nothing more than that,” she said. Okay, so she basically just said it’s not a question of whether there’ll be a new series, but of working on the right story! And that is music to your Gilmore Girls obsessed ears!
The revival series brought Rory and Lorelai back together in Stars Hollow after all those years of the former being away for work. It would be interesting to see where a new season, whenever it is out, will take our favourite mother-daughter duo.
In the meantime, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that another revival is announced sooner than later.
