According to Tanya S Kapoor, when one curates a diet plan, one must ensure that nothing is overdone as it could cause adverse effects like hair fall. While a healthy diet takes care of the body’s nutrient deficiency, it’s equally important to keep a track of how food much one consumes.

Take sugar for example. Sugar doesn’t help with weight loss and is it considered to be a hindrance in protein absorption leading to poor quality of hair growth. Junk and processed foods are equally harmful as they also contain added sugar that equally supports in harming one’s hair growth. Not to mention, alcohol intake is also directly proportionate to one’s hair loss as alcohol depletes the body’s zinc levels which is essential for our hair to grow. Overconsumption of alcohol also causes hair breakage and ruins the hair’s natural texture. Relying too much on seafood doesn’t help either. Since seafood is high in mercury, too much of it does not support good hair growth but rather deteriorates it.

Now that you know which foodstuffs to avoid. Make sure that your new diet is packed with these healthy ingredients!

  • Eggs – Either consume them or make a hair mask out of them. Eggs are rich in protein, biotin, zinc and selenium.
  • Berries – They’re loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C. They help to boost hair growth and protect the hair follicles from free radicals.
  • Spinach – A cup of spinach is rich in iron, folate, iron and Vitamins A and C. Iron helps with hair growth and repairs damaged hair faster.
  • Avocados – They’re also known as Nature’s butter. Avocados are rich in Vitamin C and E and help to fight against oxidative stress.
  • Seeds and Nuts – Most nuts are rich in fatty acids, Vitamin B and zinc. Not to mention, seeds are also rich in zinc, selenium and Vitamin E

More than putting together a healthy diet, it’s important to keep a tab on your personal consumption. Too much of something is not good for your health either. If you still don’t see any improvement in your hair after trying a new diet, seek guidance from a dietician. Good luck!
