Look, choosing a foundation is a tedious process on its own. There are times when you come home with a formula that felt like a Yes To The Dress match at a brightly-lit store but is a little too yellow at home. You could return the product, and claim your money back. But ‘No Refunds, No Exchange, No Return’ often leave you with no choice. Even those times when you decide to shop online because visiting to a store is too much work can bite you back. Also, that ‘no-return’ policy still lingers.
Now you’re left with a considerably expensive foundation that you have no use for — because a pea-sized drop of the formula also makes it similar to one of the Simpsons. But there’s something you can do to salvage this bottle of the wrong shade of foundation…and Instagram has the answer for you. Ahead — a shade-correction hack.
It’s Time To Bring Out The Wrong Foundation And Fix It
Rose Siard is a virtual life-saver and we’re not exaggerating at all. She summons a palette containing four pigments — blue, yellow, white, and orange. These colours are supposed to adjust the shade of your foundation. “These are mixing pigments, and they’ve saved all of my foundations,” she declares.
Blue, for instance, lends a tinge of coolness to the foundation while yellow and orange add some warmth to the shade. A few drops of white can neutralise the colour, and make it brighter and lighter in the process. All you need to know is your natural undertone. Think about it. Is your foundation too warm, orange, or yellow for your skin? Time to retrieve the blue. Is your foundation too red, pink, or cool? Time to mix in a few drops of orange or yellow. This will warm it up instantly. And this isn’t limited to foundations — if you find that your concealer is a little too dark, just blend in a little white, and notice how the formula becomes lighter in seconds.
Rose goes on to explain undertones to us, and how to identify yours easily. Remember that your undertone is the underlying colour that your skin-tone casts: cool, neutral, or warm. A cool undertone is composed of blueish, reddish, and pinkish hues; a warm undertone is composed of peach, yellow, and golden; and a neutral undertone is a mix of the two. Rose encourages us to swatch all of our formulas on our skin, and check which one blends in seamlessly — that is your undertone. Ensure you’re doing this in natural lighting, and allowing the pigments to dry for 2 minutes.
