Dia Mirza Reveals She Wasn’t Allowed To Hold Her Son For Two Months & We Are In Awe Of Her Courage

When we think of celeb pregnancies—we think about beautiful flowy kaftans, perfect maternity shots, and heartwarming Instagram posts. However, in recent few years, many Bollywood moms have started speaking up about the hardships of being a new mother, and we love their honesty. Recently, Dia Mirza got real about the complications she faced after welcoming her baby boy Avyaan Azaad Rekhi.

Last year, Dia and her hubby Vaibhav Rekhi welcome their first child but the months that followed were some of the toughest of their lives for the couple. Avyaan was born prematurely and the situation was “life-threatening” for the little one.

In an interview, Dia shared, “My placenta was haemorrhaging and the doctor said I have to pull your baby out otherwise I would have gone into sepsis. It was life-threatening for both of us and within 36 hours of birth, the baby had to go through surgery.”

The actress added that during the fifth month of her pregnancy, she had to undergo appendix surgery and which possibly led to “bacterial infection”. Dia shared, “And then three and a half months after he was born, he had to go through a second surgery. He was in the NICU right through that time. I wasn’t even allowed to hold him till two and a half months had passed after he was born. He was so tiny and so fragile and it was Covid times so there were all kinds of other conditions and regulations I had to follow. I was allowed to see my baby only twice a week.”

Since the arrival of her little munchkin, Dia has been open about her journey as a new mom and we are constantly in awe of her honesty. It isn’t easy to watch your child suffer and not be able to help him.

We laud Dia for being incredibly strong during such difficult times. As writer Linda Wooten once said, “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had, and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed.”
