Remember when the world was going through a Vampire renaissance period in the 2000s? We were blessed with movies and shows like Twilight, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, The Vampire Diaries, The Little Vampire and many more. As it turns out the desi telly world is now cashing on the vampire/werewolf trend and the Ishq Main Ghayal is the result of it.
Recently, I decided to give this show a chance and sat down to watch its trailer without any prejudice. Now that I have endured a minute and 47 seconds of this cringefest, I have a lot to say about it. The show appears to be a story of two brothers, Armaan and Veer played by Gashmeer Mahajani and Karan Kundrra. Meanwhile, Reem Shaikh is playing the part of a college student named Esha.
So, without further ado, here are my honest thoughts about the new vampire/werewolf saga—Ishq Main Ghayal.
- From writing in a journal to making vlogs, Indian shows have surely come a long way.
- “Aaj mujhe mera ishq milega, kaisi hogi wo?” So, are we just going to ignore the fact that this man is obsessed with a woman he doesn’t even know? Red flag alert!
- Did Karan just say ‘Hello brother’? Can someone call The Vampire Diaries‘ Damon Salvatore ‘coz Karan just stole his iconic line?
- Where is this spooky mist coming from? Do these characters have their personal spotlights?
- Esha is walking around a spooky forest with a guy she barely knows. Umm…That sounds logical (yes sarcasm).
- Can someone turn off this bizarre background score? It is giving me heebie-jeebies.
- Oh wait, is this show about werewolves? Why do they have vampire teeth then? Also, where did they find these terrible fangs, I can also feel the plastic pricking my neck right now.
- Did they copy the entire format of The Vampire Diaries? Esha is Elena Gilbert, Armaan is Stefan Salvatore and Veer is obviously Damon. So, nothing original.
- This trailer reminded me of another desi vampire show Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, but at least it was a little original.
- Karan looks uncomfortable in this trailer. Is this a character trait or he also finds everything hella awkward here?
- On a separate note, obsessed with the white dress Esha is wearing!
- Even though the show appears to be a car wreck, I am still going to watch it. Maybe I am a masochist.
In conclusion, Ishq Main Ghayal seems like a total cringe-fest and I am dying to watch more of it. Don’t worry, I’ll be back with the review of the show soon ‘coz I don’t ever learn my lesson when it comes to terrible shows.
