The official social media handles of Netflix India created quite a buzz recently. Its #Playback2021 series on Instagram has blown our minds and how! To watch videos that have glimpses of our fave Bollywood celebs in the most-talked-about Hollywood shows is truly something. Relax, they are not actually having a crossover, but we’re loving this gimmick. It also makes us wonder what the desi version of these famous series will look like? Well, it seems that our questions have now been answered. A new web series is going to tell us exactly what will happen when a royal family of India will host a Squid Game competition in its own house.
Kaun Banegi Shikharwati is a new show that’s going to release on Zee5 on January 7, 2022. The series stars Naseeruddin Shah in the leading role as the ruler of a fictional state called Shikarwat. To save his legacy, he will try to convince his four daughters—Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra and Anya Singh—to participate in twisted games. The trailer of this quirky show released recently on the social media handles of the OTT platform. Take a look:
What happens when Khoobsurat meets Khatron Ke Khiladi meets Squid Game? You get something like Kaun Banegi Shikharwati. In the trailer, we can even see the web series giving a nod to the Korean drama and showing the four girls as the iconic green-costumed players.
It seems that Lara, Soha, Anya and Kritika’s characters will compete against each other again as grown-ups to win the throne of their kingdom. Given their loathing for each other, we think it will be a cutthroat challenge and in no way, any less intense than the OG Squid Game rounds.
At the end of the trailer, we also see the prize money and a man who’s determined to take the whole kingdom down. The prize is actually a hidden treasure that needs to be secured from the hands of income tax officers. The new ‘Shikharwati’ will help Naseeruddin in doing exactly that.
During a recent interview with a leading lady, Soha talked about her role and said, “The script was the first thing that caught my attention and of course, the talented star cast! I am sure the families who will watch our series will be able to relate.” Her co-star, Lara, added that the show is different from other family dramas and said, “Family dramas might be common, but this dysfunctional family is unlike any you have seen before.”
Well, the trailer has us convinced that the actress is absolutely right. We are surely going to enjoy this web series and cannot wait to see the desi twist the makers have given to Squid Game.
