Deepika Padukone is one of the few Bollywood celebrities who also launched her own skincare brand, 82E last year. While the brand was a hit amongst most beauty aficionados, the products have also been getting flak for being too expensive. But that’s not why Deepika is getting picked on.
In her most recent AMA on Instagram, Deepika revealed something interesting about how her products are tested, for which she’s being trolled.
What Did Deepika Padukone Say?
When asked if the 82E products are tested, Deepika said, “Yes, very much the 82E products are tested by me first, before it is tested by anybody else.” After making the controversial statement, Deepika explained, “So this is how it works, we brief the RnD team. Based on the brief they come up with iterations. They submit the iterations to me. I’m the first person who tries out any product before it even goes into dermat testing or clinical testing, so I’m the first person who tests it. I try it out, give it feedback and then it goes in for clinical testing.”
The internet was clearly not having it and started calling her out for the production process.
The Hate Comments Directed To Deepika
One redditer commented on the video which read, “This doesn’t make any sense. How can the products be tested on her before dermatological testing. She is either completely unaware of the actual process or is lying through her teeth to prove how safe her products are.”
Another user wrote, “These are exactly my thoughts. She doesn’t know the process at all if she’s saying she is testing them before clinical testing. And trying to overcompensate for her lack of involvement in the process by making such absurd claims.”
There are tons of such comments on the video which basically say Deepika doesn’t know what she is talking about, she is not involved with her brand as much as he says she is, and that an actress like her would never test products that aren’t dermatologically tested.
Is There Any Sense To What Deepika Said About Testing Products?
What she’s saying does make sense because a potential product will only get dermatologically certified and clinically after the test product is approved and in line with the brief. And the people who are creating these test products are certified chemists themselves who have worked in labs and are vetted for product development. While there were so many hate comments, one redditer explained the actual manufacturing process of beauty products.
The user wrote, “The factories or labs that are approached for such brands are top-notch. They have existing tested formulas that are often tweaked to accommodate brand briefs. Even if they are creating a new formula, the formulators are experienced enough to know which ingredients have to be used in which proportion, etc. Actual ingredient breakthroughs etc take years and most of these brands use formulations with ingredients and combinations already tested and present in the market. Derma testing takes money and only shortlisted formulations undergo it and to shortlist them, you have to first test the physical samples. She might be checking them out for texture, immediate feel etc.”
What’s The Verdict?
Whether you like the products from Deepika’s 82E or not, trolling her for this statement isn’t really justified. Every person trolling Deepika needs to understand the actual process of building a brand and creating products. It may seem that Deepika is overcompensating when talking about her brand, but that doesn’t mean she is lying about the process. And she definitely doesn’t deserve this much negativity.
