Deepika Padukone made an appearance at the FIFA 2022 World Cup match between Argentina and France on Sunday, December 18. The FIFA 2022 trophy was unveiled by the actress and former Spanish football player Iker Casillas. While we were thrilled to see Deepika make history, her outfit was a letdown. The Pathaan actress wore a Louis Vuitton ensemble, the same brand that created the World Cup trophy trunk. The outfit simply did not cut it for us and was a major fashion faux pas.
Deepika arrived at the Lusail stadium in Qatar dressed in a white shirt paired with a tan leather overcoat that was cinched at the waist with a statement black belt. To complete the look, the actress wore a black skirt. While DP’s stunning smile and confidence usually steal the show, it wasn’t enough to distract us from the hideousness of the outfit. Some fans believed that Deepika, who is an ambassador for Louis Vuitton, ‘deserved better’ than the ‘atrocious’ outfit the label made her wear.
Many people took to social media after the ceremony to criticise LV and her stylist, Shaleena Nathani, for not thinking the outfit through. A user wrote, “Louis Vuitton, you should have given her something better to wear. Why are you doing that to her, why?” A few also pointed out that Deepika looked like she was wearing a duffel bag.
TBH, even if we tried, there’s no way we could defend Deepika’s outfit. As if the overcoat with the strange shoulder pad wasn’t enough, the outfit was ruined by the black skirt and boots that didn’t match at all. At least Deepika’s makeup team was thinking clearly. The only positive aspects of the look was the glossy base, filled-in brows, ravishing red lipstick, and sleek bun.
Leaving aside the fashion gaffe, we applaud Deepika Padukone for making India proud around the world! Let’s hope the actress continues to slay, but in better outfits!
